My good friend's got a supra N/A, not a TT, 5spd it's a 93. He talked up a storm about how he's going turbo, but could take my 95 gt right now w/ out the turbo. He keeps calling me out. The tracks around here are closed for the holidays and i'm not a big fan of street racing, but just cuz he's a friend of mine, I'm thinking of taking him on. All I have is an h-pipe and k&n filter, but i think I should be able to hang with him pretty good, if not beat him. It's all just for fun anyway, and sht talking rights. What do ya'll think?

He has 5 more horsepower stock, and there is a 40lb difference in his favor. It would all depend on the driver.

H-pipe? Is it an o/r h-pipe or what? Also, is yours an auto or a 5 spd? 5 spd, I think you might be able to take him, from a stop. From a roll, I don't know. With an auto, I think he should take you.

that's basically what I figured as well:
-if I can get traction & launch right then I should be able to beat him off the bat and after that it'll be dead even, so I should win, but if I burn rubber, which is so hard not to then he's gonna hand me my asssss back on a silver platter!

If it's the factory h-pipe, forget it. They suck. An o/r h-pipe has no catalytic converters, so it flows a lot better. The factory one, has 2 cats, and 2 resonator type things. Either way, an aftermarket h-pipe will help out nicely.

You should be able to take him stock. If you can drive at all. They might have 5 or so hp more but look at the tq. they havent somewhere around 222 to our 285. tq wins races, hp sells cars.

It's a NA 93 Supra. I was able to beat two non-trubo models (one five -speed the other automatic). I beat the automatic with my friends "saphire blue" 95 5-speed. It was no challenge at all. My friend's mods: k & n drop in filter and two flowmaster mufflers.
I beat the 5-speed with my sister's automatic and stock 99 v6. I murdered the same supra (kid was an a-hole) in my lightly moded 2001 GT.

I don't think you should have a problem at all.
If you're having doubts, I'll race your car for you and we can put some money on it.

You should be able to take him by doing a few simple things. When you race him, lower your tire pressure (20PSI maybe?), try not to spin ur tires too bad, (i would even say practice launching), reduce weight as much as u can (take out ur spare tire and the insolation (who needs it anyways?), u should be able to take him....

The only reason I have any doubts is cuz the supra guy says he ran dead even w/ an auto 2001 gt and those have like 260 hp. But you guys got my confidence up!

No. Always run the lowest octane you can without pinging. The lower the octane, the more efficiently and thoroughly it burns.

do a power burn b4 u race and get ur tires a little sticky. plus its intimaditaing and you could psyc out ur friend just enough. but i think you should be fine. ive beaten N/A supras with my auto b4, granted i have a rebuilt tranny with stronger crap in there and a good shift kit.

My friend has one of these supras that doesn't have a turbo. He floored it and i was not impressed at all, turbo is a different story of course. I think you should win.

Advance the timing to 14* run higher octane, lower tire pressure, remove some weight, and learn to launch.

you should have no problem if you know how to drive. last i heard your driving a mustang not a rice rocket so don't strip the interior and what not. the 2v mods with auto transmissions aren't any faster than our cars. lower the tire pressure, do a solid burnout, launch good and you can wait for him at the finish line. i don't know where your racing but be safe and responsible and stay out of trouble. also if the only thing stopping you is fear of loosing than you need to suck it up and go stomp on him.

I own two Supras and 3 Mustangs, and I have to say, in bone stock form they are a very close match. My 87 N/A Supra has about the same hp/torque as the JZA80 Model, so there wouldn't be too much of a difference in your case. The supra has most of its juice in the midrange to upper end. So if you fudge up your launch your really giving the other guy a major advantage. From experiece the Supra really takes off at 3000 rpm. I have quite a bit of fun in my 87 against camaro's. The mustangs always keep up pretty well, and in many cases beat me. Now if I can get the brute low end out of it I would be a happy son of a bitch.

And yes the supra is a heavy car, but I didn't need to rip out the interior to do some damage. I like them, but its still cheaper to build mustangs to have fun on a friday night.

Dont race him from a roll, if he trys to then call him a and tell him real men race from a dig, insult his manhood and he will cave in and race from a stop. Let your TQ advantage win the race for you. Just dont take off and spin through 1st, 2ed gear you wont have to hammer on it from the start, ease into it b/c you have enough of a TQ advantage to get ahead of him.
