N/A Supra wants some...

alright ya'll,
I feel like I should be able to win, and it'll have to be at the launch! I figured the mustang's power curve is a lot better than the supra, so with some luck of not spinning tires too much I should take him. I was thinking of ditching the air filter just for the race, might help a bit. I get the feeling this will probably go down this coming weekend.

I own two Supras and 3 Mustangs, and I have to say, in bone stock form they are a very close match. My 87 N/A Supra has about the same hp/torque as the JZA80 Model, so there wouldn't be too much of a difference in your case. The supra has most of its juice in the midrange to upper end. So if you fudge up your launch your really giving the other guy a major advantage. From experiece the Supra really takes off at 3000 rpm. I have quite a bit of fun in my 87 against camaro's. The mustangs always keep up pretty well, and in many cases beat me. Now if I can get the brute low end out of it I would be a happy son of a bitch.

Not trying to bust your balls here, but I killed my buddies 91 Supra on a regular basis when I had an 84 300ZX N/A, and I couldn't touch a 5.0
You got that 87 hooked up or something?

do a power burn b4 u race and get ur tires a little sticky. plus its intimaditaing and you could psyc out ur friend just enough.

Intimidate, yes. Sticky? Probably not. Most street tires get greasy when they get hot. If you do a tire burn, just do it for half a sec to warm and clean them. If you start to see smoke, you went too far.

Wait a minute.
There is a difference between the old body style supras and the newer ones. The n/a older ones are dogs, and the old turbo ones are ok at best. The newer supras are different. It should be a good race. Practice your launching, and take advantage of your low end torque, which will be what wins you the race. If you have to rely on higher rpm hp, you are playing into his car's strengths. Good luck!

No the supra I own is not hooked up... I've had good luck with it, and i've had bad luck with it also. Which is why I'm respraying it and then selling it. The 225 hp numbers are its advertised. Most people don't bother taking a n/a supra to the dyno, so the 180 hp number could be right. That's one advantage the mustang has is they put down the power, from one to the next. My 87 ran real well, but my 1990 n/a supra ran like dog ****. So i'm selling it to finish off my 306 powered ford ranger. Then I'm building my 393 stroker :nice:. Maybe one of these days I might redo the 1990 I have but its getting a 1JZGTE twin turbo (I'm tired of the 7m's head gasket issues).
