I just upgraded my fuel pump this morning, and I'd like to step up the nitrous on my Mustang. What's everyone's opinion on the nitrous power limit for a stock 5.0 liter?

My current mods:

NOS 05115 dry nitrous system(with the adjustable tee)
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump
C&L 76mm MAF meter and inlet tube
Stock airbox with a flat panel K&N
Autolite 24's gapped at .035
MSD cap, rotor, and coil
Taylor wires
Flowmaster after-cat

BK_CAULEY

it's built for speed not longevity, woman

That stock bottom end will take more than I'd trust that dry it to. I've put 250hp shot on multiple stock shortblocks, but I only use wet kits.

I have ran as high as an .082 jet and had little issues on a stock bottom end. I feel with your modifications that you can run in the mid to high 60's jets safely. I feel the dry kit is far safer then most wet kits. With running a dry kit all additional fuel has to be run through the injector, so I feel your limitation now are that you can not increase the fuel through your injectors. A chip, EPEC, PMS etc will allow you to be able to add fuel through the injectors upon adding nitrous. If you want to use higher then jets in the 60's. You will need some sort of fuel managment to add the additional fuel.

So in my current configuration you're recommending I stay in the 125-150 HP range?

I ran 125 wet shot for awhile and didnt do any more damage than expected. You will get all kinds of answers to this question. I can say the 125 shot was as high as I would go without a built shortblock. just my 2 cents

Sorry for jacking your thread but I have a question for the original poster, you say you just upgraded your fuel pump, what dry shot were you running on the stock pump? Im gonna be installing my dry kit today and I still have a stock fuel system and I was gonna start with a 100 shot but now im thinking of taking it down to 75 until I can get a bigger fuel pump. What are your thoughts on the dry kit with the stock fuel pump, while it be ok with a 75 shot and is a 100 shot to much for it?

My stock fuel pump wasn't able to keep up past a 75 shot. My advise would be to spend the extra $100 and get a 255 lph Walbro. It took me less time to replace the pump than it did to install the nitrous system.

Yes. I feel that you should be ok with that. As you start to upgrade to larger injectors, better fuel pressure regulator, etc. You can test with larger jets. As a long time nitrous racer I can recommend reading your plugs often.

Got my kit in today. Went with a 75 shot due to the factory fuel pump and it runs like a beast, lots faster than it was. Im gonna order a 255 pump this weekend and up to 100-125 shot within the next month, but right now I love it

Think you like the 75 shot!?! Wait till you try the 125. I ran mine with the 125 HP jets for the first time today.

40 mph rolling burnouts FTW!

Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

Nitrous doesn't kill motors. Detonation and people kill motors.

I agree, I run 125 on a h/c/i 302, I had 125 on my stock motor, but I wanted to step it up to 175. If you had a wet kit I wouldnt hesitate to run 250.

i would say stay below the 150 hp shot. Also i ask why you would not run a wet kit. Much safer for the engine. Also i would recomend if you don't alreay to run a plate because a single jet does not disperse the Nitrous evenly into the cylinders.

i wouldnt go over 175.......and 175 is pushing it! Get rid of the dry kit, not nearly as effective or as safe as a wet/plate kit. Nitrous gets a really bad name, and it is honestly just because people get stupid with it

I also forgot to mention that you will need to take a little more timing out of your car when you start running the bigger shot on nitrous to be ultra safe you take 2 degrees for every 50hp shot. That being said i have 4 degrees out for my 150hp shot but i know my engine runs on the rich side of things.
