nail in tire...patch?

I have a nail in my rear tire... right in the middle (treads). I searched, but couldn't find anything... I assume a tire shop can patch a tire of this size (295/35/18). Has anyone run into problems with tire shops not doing this for some reason?

if its in the middle they should be able to patch it the only time they cant but some might still do it, if it's about 1/4" from the sidewall safety reasons and other stuff....... but in your case you should be fine and they should be able to patch it

I just plug my tires myselfs. On my GT I got a nail in the rear tire right in the middle about a year ago. I didn't even take the tire off the car. All i did was pull the nail, rasp out the hole a bit and insert a tire plug and filled it with air. It's held fine every since.

I've plugged many tires, and have yet to have a problem. I even keep a tire plug kit in my trunk, which i have used to fix friend's car's tires

If it's in the tread pattern, it is very very easy to "plug" the tire, in fact, a nail is probably the easiest tire fix there is, more than 99% of the time the plug will hold perfectly. They use an extreme kind of glue also, it should cost you under 20$. At the most they may charge a fee for a Mount/Balance on top of it.

I've successfully plugged every tire i've ever pulled a nail out of, probably like 6-8 times total. It's very simple. While you're at it yank your valve stem left, right, up and down and listen for a leak, or put a little water on it first, replace it if it leaks, cheap and may as well when repairing a tire, I always do. Also very simple, just need a razor blade.

take is somewhere for a balance

tell them about the nail and they'll probably plug it for free, plus a balance every once in a while couldn't hurt

I've plugged many tires, and just like Mustang 5L5, some times I didn't even remove the wheel. They have always held.

$10 for a plug? Hell they patch in my area for $12. $7 for a plug. I just bought the plug kit and do it myself. You can get 5 plug strips for about $5 or $6.

The plug will hold fine, but it's always better to patch it.

No way, a plug for a nail is far superior in every way to a patch. It will last the life of the tire in virtually every case, and the "plug" wears down along with the tread. Unbeatable. Simple.

Typical, average price, around 8-15$ at a tire repair shop. If you go to a shop that specializes in other stuff and ask them to do it, they may charge a bit more, or not even do it. Anyways, if you can dress yourself in the morning, you can probably plug a tire. It's very simple. Now that I think about it, I dont think i've ever had to take a wheel off a car to do it.

Plus CA is ghey, so everything is more expensive. Not to mention uber ghey smog laws and no 93 octane gas!

a plug should do you fine for a nail, i have like three in my tires right now because of a construction site that i have to pass on my way home, so i usually drive around with a plug kit and compressor just in case

yes, actually i have been turned down by two shops because they refused to work on the 18" tires. they said max size they would patch was 17"

but yea just easy and simple $10 at most shops. get 'er done.

i work at a tire shop and specialize in low profiles and custom wheels and plugs SUCK!!!!!!!! they last about 3 to 6 months and the glue wears off and starts leaking patchs or pull throughs my shop wont plug causes seperation

yea heck just go to walmart purchase urself a plug kit and it comes with like 10 plugs and do it yourself its not hard at all. On my stock tires i got a nail in each one of the tires some tires had two nails in them lol this was all overtime though. I hated those tires they picked up every nail and i wouldnt drive in any construction or anything.
