I recently picked up an clean 89' LX with only 65K. I need some help identifying the cam. Previous owner says its the stock cam but to me this does not sound like it. I had a bone stock 87 GT a few years back and this sounds like it has some kind of mild cam.

Here are the current mods:

Shorty headers
Pypes X pipe (no cats)
Pypes catback
BBK CAI
Underdrive pulleys
MSD coil
Aluminum radiator
FRPP 3.73
C&L 73mm MAF

I tried to embed it but here's the link

What do you guys think?

Any replies based solely on sound would be nothing more than a guess. The only way to know would be to pull the cam and either search the numbers you'll find stamped on it and hope you find something, or take measurements of all of the cam events and compare them against other cams until the match is found.

Yea I figured that. I'm going to take it out when I swap my heads so I guess I'll have to wait. Thanks for the reply

Engine vacuum will help with zeroing in what cam is in there. I'm at work and there is no sound device installed on this thing. I have a bone stock ho and it idels with 19 inches and my wifes car has and e303 and it idles in between 12-13. Hope that helps. Sometimes your ear is a pretty good tool but as far as dialing in cam duration by sound, its something i cant say i can do yet. Usually engine vacuum on a car in tip top shape is changed by the cam alone. See how much you have.
