I seen a guy with a blue coupe tonight and I asked him if he wanted to sell it. He said how much will you give me. I went over and checked it out. I found the following

88 Notch with a 5.0
181,000 Km's
been painted blue and the quarter window trim was painted the same
rear bumper has been hit slightly on the driver side corner chipping the paint off
Trunk is missing the lock
5 speed
needs to be painted (my Dad runs a body shop:nice: )
I think it had hood pins (never really looked at the front end)
sounds stock and the exhaust sounded quiet.. didn't hear any knocks or ticks
looked like it has a aftermarket shifter
grey interior
no sunroof or T-tops (witch I dont want anyway's)

I didn't know what to offer and he never gave me a price to work with. I would like to get this and fix it up and maby sell the GT (probly not though lol)
He gave me his name and number and said to call him with an offer.

Agreed. I have had people give me the "Tell me what you think it is worth" speech and I just tell them that what I think it is worth is irrelevant, the important thing is what they think it is worth.

If he won't name a price go low as hell and see what he says. At worst all he can say is no.

Offer him $1200 and if he says he can't take that little just tell him that's what you thought it was worth. Then ask him how much he'll take. He'll probably come back with "Well I need $XXXX" or "I need at least $XXXX" then just go from there.

Put a price in your mind that you are willing to give for it and don't go beyond that.

Make it a fair offer though, its great to get things for a deal, especially if they're volunteering it. But when you can get a pretty good runner with a decent body for under 2k (And I know Canadian Prices are pretty extreme) it only drives the fox market down in price. So Think about it like if it were your car and you wanting to sell it, and what you'd want to get for it. Offer him a bit less than that (although ideally he SHOULD be giving you a price, work for that) and negotiate from there.
