I found a 1992 mustang GT conv. with 80000 original miles. Its an automatic with 5.0 V-8. I have not seen it in person yet but they told me everything works good and it drives out nice. They are asking $4995 for it. It is bone stock with no mods. Is that a fair price? It would be a daily driver, mostly in town. The car can be seen at www.scofieldpros.com. Is the 5.0 a solid motor? What about the automatic? I have owned 3 other mustangs in the past and I am ready for another. I got rid of my 2001 4.6 because of the common spark plug shooting out of the heads and cracking intake problems. I have also owned a 1992 2.3 mustang and a 2000 3.8 stang. I have always wanted the 5.0.

5.0 motor is SOLID! an unmodded car is a good start also. usually not bagged liked a lot are. check for any holes drilled for N2O though. other factors u should look for: check torque boxes, ashtray and arm rest latch (haha 5.0 guys will know what i mean), 5 spd trannys are fairly weak, stock alts suck, water pump. there are other peole that have cookie-cutter-answer type posts that can help u out. i'm sure it won't be long. its a great car though. much easier to work on than a lot of any other cars, and the support is huge if u have any probs!:SNSign: !

Sounds like a good deal to me. I just bought a 93 a few months ago. There are lots of parts out there. Your ashtray door will be broken! Its the way its supposed to be.

Hey guys thanks for the advice. I called the dealer and they said that an older couple previously owned the car; and they traded it in for a newer stang. He also said that they took real good care of it. They told me the interior is in excellent shape and its got a new convertible top. He told me that there is one minor problem, it hesitates when you shift into different gears occasionally. I dont know what thats all about but its going into the shop tomorrow to get fixed. Its got an automatic tranny, I wanted a manual but the auto will do. They also have a 30 day bumper to bumper warranty on this car. The dealership has a bunch of other stangs to check out too.

I just looked at the car a couple days ago. The interior is almost perfect, and yes it does have the ashtray and it isn't broken. Its been repainted, but its not show quality. Which it doesnt need to be perfect since it will be a daily driver. Were all the 5.0's high output in 1992? This one is. Anyhow I passed on buying the car that day. Mainly because the tranny would hesitate when you would take off from a stop sign. But they called me today and said they fixed the problem. They said who ever changed the tranny fluid did not do it correctly. Not sure but I think they forgot some gasket or something that caused it to malfunction. Anyone familiar with this issue? They said if you dont know everything about this tranny when servicing it you can easily over look one step and cause the tranny to hesitate. Anyhow, I think I will be looking at again tomorrow. If I buy it I will try to post some pics.

They talked to a transmission specialist, and they said it was common if the tech does not know about this "problem". I will know more about this problem tomorrow. Sorry I dont know whole lot about transmissions. When I tried it out it hesitated at stops, but not all the time. It did not hesitate once you got up to speed or sped up. He said whatever was overlooked in the tranny was causing it to suck air. Anyones guess is as good as mine. Its a simple fix and its suppose to run normal now. They also did pressure checks and everything was good.

I think that $4995 is too much for a 92 Mustang 5.0 vehicle. I wouldn't give anymore than $1,500 to $2,000 for that car if it's in very good shape. You're better of buying something newer for $5,000.

I don't know, it seems a bit high. I dont really know that age-range but $5000 is a fair bit down towards a brand new stang.

If it in that gooda shape, and not been molested, you're doing good at $5k, if you spend $2k on a GT vert, you gonna get a real piece. Good luck!

i think the price is okay. not with the problem it is having though. It would need to be fixed first or the price dramatically reduced.

I was just having hesitation problems myself. They made it harder to start from a stop but mines a stick. It was the O2 sensors...

if its in the shape you say and doesnt need a dump truck full of parts to make it reliable then jump on it. it took me forever to find a fox worth buying. i started out thinkin i was going to be able to find a decent one for around 2-3 thousand, man was i wrong. i ended up paying 8500 for the 89 saleen clone i bought. it came with a ton of go fast goodies though, ie vortech supercharger, power pipe, trick flow track heat heads and intake, subframe connectors, an extra full mint factory interior (seats and seatbacks), extra powersteering pumps, extra alternators, two ac pumps and all of the lines, ac and smog delete brackets and pullies, couple maf sensors and tubes, a few more things that im forgetting. if it feels good take it or you will be sorry.

The tranny mite be shot. 5000 for a nice 5.0 is normal, dont listen to any clowns in here. As far as the one your looking at drop the price a 1000 bucks and tell him its for a new tranny. If he says yes you just got a good buy. If he says no walk away!

If he forgot a filter, the tranny might have been sucking up air. That could have led to the fluid foaming = yuck.

Sounds like a good deal. If they fixed the tranny issue and it is a daily driver than you will enjoy it. When stock I got like 26 MPG and 20 city. Check it out and enjoy.

Well, I bought the stang today. They fixed the tranny troubles. It was a gasket on the filter that was forgotten. The tranny shifts really good now. It does not shift as smooth as a new one. But it will work. I traded in my 2003 PT Cruiser turbo. I wanted to downgrade for a while to save money for my paintless dent repair career. The interior of my stang is almost good as new, the seats and carpet show very minimal wear, and everything is complete. Its got power windows and locks and all the glass is in good shape. The convertible top is new. Its an LX but its got GT ground effects. Its been repainted, its not show quality paint by any means, but it is presentable. However it does have the factory pony wheels, that has got to change. It did Okay on mpg, I drove 150 miles and it barely used 1/2 a tank. The air conditioning does work well but would not hurt to get recharged. Overall this is a solid car and I think it will work out well. Even if the tranny goes out, its still a good deal. Also its got a 30 day 100% bumper to bumper warranty. Maybe I will post some pics tomorrow after its cleaned up. How do you post pics on this website?
