I am thinking about doing some simple body stuff to my car before I send it off to get it painted. I want to get a stock fiberglass hood, maybe fiberglass fenders, but I doubt they reduce weight that much, and I am really curious if any company makes fiberglass doors. I had to take out my inner fenderwells to fit my larger tires, and I rarely drive it on the street, so as of right now, water gets into my door the few times I do get caught in the rain, and is rusting out my doors inside. Plus, Door will be lighter than the stock ones I am sure.

with the door thing, it becomes an issue of safety and rigidity, and you'd have to fab a sort of cage, leaving the thing as heavy as you started with.

the hood probably wont be worth the money.....hoods are for looks and clearance

A hood would be nice because I will keep the stock look. I do not like cowels because they obscure the view, and fiberglass will obviously be lighter than stock.

I don't recommend fiberglass doors unless a roll cage is put in place to protect the driver in the event of a side collision.

There is a fair amount of safety designed into our steel doors, which would be very expensive to do with composites.

Besides, when composites fail they kind of explode; throwing splinters of fiberglass into your flesh.
You don't want to be anywhere near composites at that time.

Just my thoughts,

jason
