Engine block is ready for p/u and I am about to embark on a complete rebuild. I know after the rebuild I will need a custom tune but I am not sure if a simple tuner like the Diablo Predator or SCT X2/X3 to change the stock computer is what I can get away with or if I need to go to a speed shop and get a new chip to get the most out of my modifications.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The following are a list of Mods I will have completed after the rebuild:

.030 Bore
Forged Rods, Pistons (9cc) (should yield 10.5-11.0:1 compression)
High Flow Water/Oil pumps
PI Head swap with Multi-Angle Valve Job
Stage II cams
BBK Shorty Headers
Mac ProChamber
Flowmaster Catback
U/D Pulleys
Timing Adjustor (might eliminate with custom tune)

Think that is the extent of the mods this round.

So custom speed shop tune and new chip or handheld programmer?

You will need to take it to a tuner and get it tuned. They will use your hand held tuner to load the tune on to the computer.

Call up who ever you want to tune the car and see what they use for tuning software, most tuners use SCT but some use Diablo.

I got a custom tune when I did my PI swap and I had to buy a SCT xcal 2 tuner to let them tune it. I couldn't get a diablo cause I have a 96. But if I had a 98 I could have got a Diablo tune. But anyway a custom tune will be the best for you.
