need help for cam info please!

hi,I recently bought a used 302 that the previous owner had rebuilt,it was for a 84carburated mustang I was planning on dumping it in my 92 efi.long story short
the cam is the EDL-7122 hydrolic flat tappet,now on the edelbrock site they have it listed as NOT COMPUTER COMPATIBLE does this mean it will not fit my efi setup???:shrug: any help would be really appreciated,thanks
 
That is the Performer RPM cam designed for early 289-302 that came from the factory with flat tappet (non-roller) cams.

That cam has a ton of adv. duration. Comparatively, the largest cam in Comp's Xtreme Energy hyd. roller series for computer controlled cars has less advertised duration than that.

That cam should really only be used in a non-computer controlled vehicle.
 
but will it do any harm?or would I be better off changing it?the setup is:
-keith black pistons .40 over
-ported edelbrock performer heads 2.02 valves
-svo 1.6 roller rockers
-performer rpm II intake
 
Now that's the kind of news i wanted!I really wasn't sure when I checked the cam specs, was getting a little nervous,thanks a bunch for your reply.3.73's just got them this week!
what size maf meter and throttle body would I be better off with?
 
ok,since their's no way of fixing this properly, I've decided to switch to roller cam
could any of you give me a hand in telling me what i'll need to switch from flat tappet to roller?
 
With efi the injectors are fired in order. If the injector firing order doesn't match the firing order of the cam, then problems can come up....
A chip *should* be able to fix this, but I've never tried it, and haven't heard from anyone who has...


If the block is a non roller block, then for a hyd roller cam to work, you will need the expensive 'link-bar' lifters...

If this is a temporary build, then you could just find a flat tappet cam with the right firing order... that may be the cheapest option to do it right...
 
what if i install the retrofit kit with the spider and dogbones for the lifters with the right length pushrods and get a retro fit cam
looking around summit i found this one
CCA-35-427-8 xtreme energy retro-fit
rpm range 2,500-6500
adv. dur.294/300 lift 0.576/0.600
would this setup work??? any advice is still very much appreciated!
 
MASSIVE hp difference between the two styles. A stock 5.0 roller will put out 225 horse, vs a stock flat tappet, around 170.

it's cheap to find a roller block, $200-$400 all day.

you can retrofit your exisiting block, but it may wind up costing you the same as replacing it.

Most retrofit cams are ground on a reduced base circle...
There can be issues with the reduced base cams, especially in performance applications...

My suggestion...
Either run the expensive link bar hyd lifters (which allows use of a standard base circle cam), or use one of the following...
Hyd flat
solid flat
solid roller

all of those should fit without issue...
