when i installed the Steeda Tri ax shifter. In the installation sheet, they mentioned that i have to leave a small gap between the shifter "when in gear" and the STOPS. Now my question is, what will happen if i removed the stops and just ran the shifter without them???
since i'm gonna leave a gap between the stops and the shifter, so whats the use of them?and whats the difference between the small gaps I'm gonna leave , or just removing the stops completely.because a GAP means almost like they arent even there!!!!!? please guys answer me ASAP , because its a daily driver and i really dont want anything to happen to my tranny :( .

thx alot

It is recommended to remove the stops from the aftermarket shifters by Tremec anyway. But, IMO if you are going to be hammering on the shifter hard enough it will flex enough to hit the stops.

There are internal stops inside of the 3650 trans so that is why the stops are not recommended by Tremec, but the stops are plastic inside the trans not steel like the stops on the shifter. I elected to use the stops on my Pro5.0 and know that if they are adjusted properly that it will only help things live longer inside my transmission. :nice:

The stops are there to keep from overstressing the internal stops already inside the transmission.Leave them installed and adjusted properly in the Triax.Use some Loctite blue on the threads to keep the adjustable stops from vibrating loose. If they move out of adjustment the tranny can jump out of gear and cause you to take the car to the Dealer to repair the transmission. When they get done laughing at you for bringing the car in with the shifter out of adjustment they will hand you a bill for two hours of labor.(This happened to me) :(

so if i kept about this much space -------------> I I <--------- between the shifter and stops. is that okay?or do i need to make the space tighter Still??
some people said that they bent their tranny fork? why would that happen

you said to keep from overstressing the internal stops. Okay but when shifting , the shifter doesnt even touch the shifter stops. so how is that helping!!!

On my Pro5.0 I put pressure on the shifter towards the stops and used a .010" gap gauge for a snug slip fit of the gauge between the stop and shifter.

Chopper1's suggestion of Locktite is a very good one too as the stops can and will viabrate loose.

Adjusted properly, it will hit the shifter stops if banged hard enough. You're right on not hitting the stops but that is only during normal shifts.

It shouldn't touch during normal shifting, but when you shift really hard in racing applications you could possibly hit the stops. When setting them if you push really hard on the shifter it should just barely touch the stop. Of course, these stops aren't really needed unless you shift like a beast.

I personally have the stops in there on my '99 GT's T-45 and haven't had any problems...just make sure you tighten the stops down good. I will probably go back in before too long and check to make sure they haven't moved. I may take them out. Main thing is that they are not preventing you from getting completely into gear, which you can tell from feel.
