Need Help!!!!

As i drive down the street in my 1994 mustang gt the car all of a sudden just shuts off like i just turned the car off then kicks right back up again. Sometimes it doesnt start up again and leaves me on the side of the road. Then i crank it to start it again and it doesnt want to start. I have to wait like 10 minutes or so, so it can be started again. I just replaced the fuel pump but it wasnt that. Any suggestions anything will help. Thanx.

when it wont start,check for spark.
put a spark tester inline between the coil and dizzy.
if no spark ,it's very likely you have a bad PIP in the dizzy.

but before you go replacing things,check for trouble codes.
i think autozone can do it for free.
our cars are OBD1,the test port is in the engine bay on the passanger side shock tower.

I agree that it is probably a bad PIP, though it could be a TFI.

If you remove the dizzy cap and look into the bowl, is anything loose? If you run a magnet around in the bottom of the bowl, do you pick up metal shavings? If yes to either, it's likely a PIP issue.

thanx guys but would it be easier for me to replace the distributor since thats really where the whole problem is beginning.

How do you know the PIP is the issue? It would take some diagnostics to know for sure.

As you noted, when people do need a new PIP, they often replace the dizzy instead.

If its not the pip

it could be a short.... Hissin remember how long i had this exact problem and had to cut up every damn wire in the harness...
(i would hit a bump and my car would die and come right back on a second later) (would crank and not start) then it wouldnt crank and i found a blown fuse...


Try this... when it wont crank or start grab the cluster of wires on the pass side in the back... and shake like hell then see if it starts... also check fuses...

alright i took my car to my mechanic and i guess the problem was that one of the wires on the ignition coil was fried. so im just going to replace the ignition coil and hopefully that brings an end to my car problem. thanx for all the help.
