need info on savannah, GA and surrounding area.

My uncle and aunt bought a house down there a number of years ago and has really enjoyed it. They live within the city limits and are a short drive to whatever they want (beach, downtown etc.). Remember though, they do have hurricaine evacuations from time to time which we don't get up here. If you really want to relocate you might want to look a little further inland and north (say Tennessee? ). Good luck whatever, I'm staying here.

Surrounding area, try the coastline like Sea Island. That is like a resort/ritzy style community. Very nice beaches. I was there during the G-8 summit they held about 2 years ago doing security work.

I lived close to there in the 80's, I found it ok for a car guy, of course I lived in the middle of Roebling Road's 2.02 mile road course. There was a local Drag Strip, roundy-round Track and some good Auto-x's. The beach is kinda nasty there but 15 or so miles out from the city. I lived about 10 miles west and was far enough inland to not worry about the storms. One thing I didn't like was the heat of the summer being near or above 100* a lot and the smell of the Paper Mill back then.

The Ferrari club has a big to-do at Willington Island every year, the BMW club fills the city once a year and other Car Clubs comes in for a open-track days out at Roebling Road.

They have "River Street" there too which is/was a very neat place to go, party place and even a party boat on weekends. It was and I still think is a place that is pretty casual to be, you could go from place to place carrying your drinks plus uptown from it there was an open party in the streets every weekend in the Summer. Sanannah has one of the biggest St. Patricks day events held down on river street too that goes on for a few days every year. Bands and eats in the streets and one whale of a Party!

St. Simons island is where I was at the G-8. I'm going on vacation there when I get back. It's a nice community.

We live in Beaufort SC, 50 miles north of Savannah, and more or less go to Savannah for serious shopping, the mall, etc. Generally, we like it. Has tons of suburbs, and is really close to more rural living if that's what you want. Currently it has my favorite salvage yard. Much nicer than Charleston.

Waterfront property is, however, somewhat expensive if that's what you are looking for.

Only big negative is that, unfortunately, Savannah Dragway just closed for good.

Downtown on the River has good entertainment and restaurants. Today is the mega celebration of St Patricks Day!

Oh no!!!! not another one! What happened?

not really, the track in savannah sucked, it was pretty run down, and the track was half covered in ricers and sand, the other half was pot holes. There is a track in screven (approx 45 min away), there was talk of building one at Oglethorpe Speedway at one time but I don't know if it ever happened. And then theres the track in Jackson, SC, not too far of a drive.

if u come to ga get ready for the humidity, mosquitos sandgnats! the beaches them selves are fairly nice but the water is dirty cant see teh bottom fo the ocean floor if u r more than about a foot of water! savannah is nice to visit they have an extremely high crime rate everytime i watch the news someone else is dead! the traffic is bumper to bumper there are alot of one way streets! contributing to the congestion! if i was to suggest a place to live i would suggest macintosh county its booming right now you can get in some land for a decent price and its only about 35 mins from sav! its more of a small town feel still but its just a short step into the big city of sav. as for the g8 it was the most disorganized mubop jumbo ever i got pulled over three times for my car being ugly lol i was stopped by federal officers the 1st time they pulled guns on my cousin and I.ill try to post a pic of the car if it will work. u can only get away with drivinga car like this in ga lol as for st simmons/sea island its a bunch of snobby people who dont mind there own buisness and a house on the island will come in around 500000 also the st simmons island is also sinking but they dont tell people that!!! i live down town brunswick in the historic district of brunswick in a three story victorian home its nice my grandfather bought in the 60's the city commision wants brunswick to be like sav but there arent enough homes and downtown is to small also!! if u are intreasted in a home in glynn county and have the money look into jekyll island its a state park very nice to live at and a short 15 min drive to brunswick
