I have been beating myself up over this for a while and wanted to get some solid opinions to help sway my decision...I am running a DSS 331, ported edel. rpm heads ( 2.02/1.60 valves), 70mm tb, 76 mm C&l MAF with a T-trim Vortech ( power pipe/ 2.95/7.00 pulleys) and about every bolt on you can imagine. My current intake is a Tubular GT40 with a mildly ported lower, and I can't help but think it may be holding me back..car runs strong as death, but I dont see too many other people running this intake with a similar setup....Is it holding me back from making more power? If so what are you guys with similar setups running and why? All opinions appriciated.....Thanks!

Yeah, I agree I'm pushing it with the stock block! So lets say I get a real block ( eventually) what do you think would be my best bet to squeeze the most power out of this setup? BTW...the car does see regular street use, and has 3:73's, and a manual trans.

Trickflow R would be my choice or my 2nd choice would be a holley. I'd use a victor manifold if you wanted killer power up top.

What cam do you have?

Yea that intake is probably holding you back some, but it is a good intake and does the job. A buddy runs box stock one on a blown 347 and ran a 6.99 1/8 mile a couple weeks ago. I run an box stock e-brock RPM on my Panhandle blown 331, and ran a best of 11.19 quater. I have been debating weather or not to go to the swapping intakes also. The victor 5.0 seems to work well with blown strokers. Built an S-trimmed 347 for a person with E-brock Victor Jr heads and Victor 5.0 intake and the car ran some 10.50's(slicks) at 3900# race weight. Also ran a 10.80 with Stickey Mickey T's drag radials..

The Holley seems to be the choice of allot of guys, but think any of the higher RPM intakes will work with you combo. I am leaning toward the victor 5.0 myslef.. Mainly since I have a new(bigger) custom blower cam..

Thanks for all the good input guys. I think I'll probably go with the Holley especally since I can get one cheap ( $200 and a stock intake from a buddy who is selling his car!). As for the cam I am running, it is a comp "blower grind" cant recall the specs off the top of my head, but its pretty agressive...If it all works out I'll let you guys know what kind of results I get out of it...Thanks again.

Not being rude, so dont take it the wrong way. That intake is not the big issue. If you have a blown 331 and are stuck in the low 11s you have other/more issues. The RPM is much better than the GT40.

Whats the entire combo, tranny and so on? 60' and MPH?

Thread starter.....a nice ported Holley would be my choice.

i would use a vic intake becasue your shortening the rpm range due to stroke. you will spin it to 6500 to get the max out of it, and that should gain you much more HP in terms of raw #s... but maybe not across the board.

No offense taken,,

The low 11's were on 17" drag radials. The combo was 331, S-trim 10#'s,42# injectors, TW heads, 70mm TB, AFM B-31 cam, RPM intake, AOD w/3000 stall, 3.55's and A9P without a chip. Race weight was 3450 with me in the car. My 60' 1.61 and trap speed was 120.80.

There was allot more in the car, but I was happy with the low 11's. Drove it 65 miles one way to the track with the t-tops off, lowered the air pressure in the DR's and ran it. Didn't even take out my speaker box...LOL When I was done, aired up the dr's took the tops back out and drove home..

I don't run slicks and never plan to. I like to run my car the way you see it on the street. And I probably take my car to the track 3 times a year at most.

In the picture below was race trim when it ran the low 11's,

Cool. Makes a lot more sense now. The parts you are using are small (for a 331). Those are nice results for all out street car with smaller parts.

I would say for sure the RPM intake needs ported for your application. I would even pot it just to feed your heads in na trim.

BTW, nice 60' time for that set-up.

I soldl that chasis about 6-7 months ago and the engine tranny combo is going into my new project, the 84 t-top coupe. And since I am refreshing the motor,, I am putting in an Ed Curtis(flowtech) blower cam, 75mm TB,and 3.73's. And the intake is a debate right now, either port the RPM or go with the victor 5.0. I think with with the new combo and lighter car, 10's shouldn't be a problem this go around.. :D
