I just bought a '72 hardtop last week. It's in really good shape, but does have it's problems. Right now I'm trying to get the interior correct. The rear dash is missing something. It's just a cardboard shelf. I'm not sure if there is a pad of some sort that goes on top of it? Also, in the middle of the dash, the part that sticks out a little more on the dash pad, it looks like there should be a light or something underneath. I've got a little cubby there, but I've seen pictures of others with vents. The hardtops are few and far between here, so I've got nothing to look at and compare it too. I've been searching the net for a while and those two places seem to be passed over when taking photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about the rear dash area, or the spot above the cubby? Here are some pics of the spots I'm talking about:

Also, is your car original, or restored? My strut tower braces and hood latch need to be painted and I'm trying to figure out what color they should be. It looks like they were originally blue. I'm not sure if that was factory or if they were replaced and never repainted. I know the car was in a front end collision so they were more than likely replaced.

The rear package tray in your car is correct as pictured - yes, it's just a coated cardboard-like material.

The center console hole in the second picture is for a center console light. I don't have time to take pictures right now - maybe later.

Cool man, thanks. I wasn't sure about the light. I've seen some with just a plate made of plastic. It looked correct enough, but at the same time it could have been home made. Any idea about the colors under the hood?

Here's the center console with all available options. The center light was an option, so if this was not originally on your car then it should have a piece of plastic there instead (as you mentioned). I believe the center vents are only provided on cars with AC, thus I assume yours does not have AC. I only have the light on the 72 Coupe Grande and the 73 Mach 1. The regular coupes have the block-out plastic piece. The only one with the gage cluster is the Mach.

I'm not sure what your looking for regarding your under hood color question - Engine block color?

Thanks for the great photo. I'm pretty sure the way my car was optioned that I didn't have the light. As far as under the hood, my main concerns are the strut tower braces and the hood latch. My appear to be some shade of blue. I'm not really sure, but they definitely don't look like they were black. The problem is, they may have been replaced due to front end collision many years ago.

The shock tower braces should be black. I can't tell what the hinges were, as mine all have a fine rust coating with no remaining signs of any finish color. I'd be interested in the correct answer to this one too.
