just bought an 88 cobra gt. stock turbine wheels and it need tires. looking at going with Cooper cobras, I am wondering and yes it has probably been asked a 1000 times, I have done some searching, but never found an exact answer. will 255/55/15 fit on the rear or is that to wide. right now it has 235's all the way around

255/50 will. i have 255/50/16 mickeys e/t streets on my 89 gt in the rear but they are tight no rubbing but tight and im lowered with fms springs all the way around. im guessing that 55s on 15 inch wheels should be the same fit as 50s on 16s. also i have 235/55/16 in front. the 255s in the front will most likely rub

ahh I messed up, looks like Cooper doesn't make that size, but they do make a 255/60//15 for the rear. for the fronts I was think 235/60/15. I know they fit because thats whats on right now. I just don't want to have any issues with rubbing or anything. this is my first mustang so its all new to me

Welcome to the site. Any pics of your new ride?
I’m running 235 all around on My ‘86, original 10 hole wheels (soon to be gone)
An additional 10mm on either side (255) should fit no problem. Most guys eventually upsize to 17”, even 18”, where 275 width is usually accomplished with little modification.

10 hole wheels are cool, but if you have to upsize for brake clearance, that’s a problem.

As kinda of a loosely adhered too rule, you want your tire width to be about 2" wider than the rim width. So on a 15x7 wheel, you want to stick with around a 225 width. You can probably sneak a 235 on there without too much fuss.

You can go bigger, but now there are tradeoffs to the amount of sidewall flex you'll have. Going straight fast? You'll be ok with wider tires. Plan on carving some corners, then you may get the sidewall rolling over onto itself and that's where you can have issues.

With that said, I ran 245's on 16x7 pony wheels when I had them

The car will be a daily driver. I don’t have to put 255 on if there going to cause problems, thats 27" tall and 10" wide, Cooper does make a tire in the 245/60/15, thats 26.6 tall and 9.6 wide. It looks good with the 235 it has now. Just wanted a little wider in rear. Here’s a couple pics

So for anyone wonder what the 255/60/15 look like on a stock turbine rim. They fit nicely
