What is a good throaty muffler for an 03 cobra? I am going after sound at the moment, i dont have the money to do headers cat back x pipe ect. i just want a nice sound that wont require a computer re-flash or warrenty issues.

Thanks

If it's a throaty sound your looking for, the best is Flowmaster. I'd look into getting a catback, you can get an American Thunder catback for around $320 with 3" SS tips. Getting mufflers welded in + some nice long tips will cost a lot of money. Most big name muffer shops want $220 to weld in two flowmaster mufflers, that's not even with tips.

I had two flowmaster mufflers welded in, along with 22" x 3" chrome tips, that had to be custom bent to fit the stock tailpipes. I ended up paying ~$275+. Needless to say I am very p!ssed I didn't just get a catback. The catback will give you bigger, smoother piping, which will give you a louder, deeper tone plus more HP.

Even getting original "loud" 2 chambered flows welded in by themselves, your car will still be EXTREMELY quiet. You will barely be able to hear the mufflers from inside the car. Eliminating the cats is a key part of the sound, along with the diameter and type of bending your piping comes with.

That is correct. A catback is a good place to start, and shows good gains, especially on The '03+ Supercharged Cobras. I wouldn't be surprised to see you gain ~10+hp/10+tq from adding a simple catback to your blown Cobra.

The cats are in the midpipe, which will trigger the MIL (malfunction indicator light) if they are removed. The "fix" to this is getting MIL eliminators. I am on my second set for my '97 Cobra, and my check engine light is STILL on. Stays off for a while cause I reset my computer by disconnecting my battery, but sure enough it turned right back on. Soo annoying. And I have the $60 plug-in kind. My car has 50k miles, recently got a tune up, and has properly working o2 sensors. So as of now, I am a disbeliever in MIL eliminators.

I would hold off on the midpipe for a while. I also forgot to mention that if you get a catback, you will be able to install it yourself! It will be completely bolt on. Getting mufflers alone will require you to have a shop weld them in.

thanks for the info....it helps alot. Looks like it time to go shopping....you havent found any good catalogs or suppliers that have a lot of SVT info in them have you. Seems the 03-04 cobra is the step child when it comes to parts....always have to look close to see if they fit.

Did you look into the solder-in kind? I've had mine for 2 years now, and I haven't had a problem with mine. I got them at http://www.mileliminators.com/ and soldered them in myself. Put some shrink-tubing on them and sealed with silicone and then electrical tape. NO problems whatsoever.

I have the $60 Dallas Plug in kind. I bought them from UPR when I bought my X-pipe. Neither have worked.
