Need some tire help.....

Ok been using a 245/60/14 BFG radial ta. Getting ready to go to a 15x7 rim and need some new tires. If I am correct a 255/60/15 should put me in the same ballpark. I want something stickier. I dont know that I want to go to a cheater slick. The guys at the tire stores around here cannot seem to come up with much in anything but BFG or cooper. They have the same traction I think. So what are yall running and how much did they cost you?

right now im running 295/50sr16 cooper cobras on my 15x7 and yes it fits. before i had 275/60r15 goodyear GTIIs. those preformed better. my suggestion would be going with a 50 sidewall. since ur already going wider. the wider u go the taller the side wall gets. so if u were to increase ur width by 20 u would want to decrease ur sidewall by 10. especially since ur going with a bigger rim.

right now im running 295/50sr16 cooper cobras on my 15x7 and yes it fits. before i had 275/60r15 goodyear GTIIs. those preformed better. my suggestion would be going with a 50 sidewall. since ur already going wider. the wider u go the taller the side wall gets. so if u were to increase ur width by 20 u would want to decrease ur sidewall by 10. especially since ur going with a bigger rim.

Not to really highjack or anything, but you got better performance out of the 275 than the 295 because you had them both mounted on a 7 inch rim. The 275 is best mounted on an 9 inch rim and the 295 best mounted on a 10 inch rim (I am actually surprised you found a shop that mounted it for you, you can tear the side walls out of tires by mounting them on rim that is too narrow, like you have). What you are doing is ballooning the tire and resticting the footprint or actual tread width that touches the ground. The 275 and the 295 both mounted on the same rim would have virtually the same contact patch. You need to get new rims for the rear.

i mounted them myself at my shop. no problem. the 275s were better because they were a better tire. the 295s have a bad temp rating which make em slippery when they get hot. so im waiting for some more cash so i get the deep dish drag rims. 11 in the rears with 345/55r15 and 4.5 in the front with 155r15.

Back to the original question - I run Kumho ECSTA 712 and they are fairly sticky, good traction, not real expensive. You can go to Tirerack.com and search by size, then look at the specs (traction, heat, etc) for each tire you are interested in.

what size are you running? The problem that I am having is finding a size that exists, will fit and will give me a tire that sticks better the the BFG ta. I go on tire rack and there are no such thing as 255/50/r15s...grr

I think Yokahama & Goodyear might have a tire in the size you are looking for.

Those numbers are the section width in millimeters. To convert to inches divide by 25.4.
To calculate overall tire diameter (height) use

{2 x [ (section width x aspect ratio) / 2540 ]} + rim diameter

Your 255/50-15 would be

Section width = 255/25.4 = 10.04 inches

Tire Diam = {2 x{[(255 x 50)/2540]} + 15 = 25.04 inches

I dug around and found a Pirelli Scorpion Zero in 255/60VR15 vr speed rated. The tread life is only 340 and they are $87 each at tire rack. The kicker is that they are 27ich tall over my current 25.6. I am running a 3.89 gear and have WAY too much spin and am running 4000rpms at 80mph.

its looking like shipping is between $25-40 per pair dependent on price and location. Looking at $70 each + $13 shipping per for dunlopes. Still need to get them mounted, but even at $20 per thats around $100 per wheel
