the pic of the motor has a carb on it
Looks pretty trashy to me, TT motor or not. Most everything on there looks like it's been half-assed. Look at the battery relocation, for crying out loud! Just threw it in the rear-seat area. Not only would it NEVER pass NHRA tech (so you could never take it to a track to even get any times), but it's friggin' ghetto-looking ... probably not even the right gauge of cable used to do the relocate, either. I'd say it's a $1,500 car with around $2,000 worth of go-fast stuffs thrown on it.
The flipped belt tensioner to delete the A/C and P/S is kinda interesting, though - something I might do later on if I delete the P/S on my '86...
The parts are worthless (or at least significantly devalued) if they're cobbled together haphazardly ... not to mention, the thing's potentially dangerous if the builder skimped on other things not readily visible as badly as he did with the things that're clearly zip-tied and duct-taped together.
Ghetto looking or not, the parts alone (not including turbo kit) are worth far more than $2k used. Even the lowly junkyard turbo kit's fetch a decent amount of money if they have put down solid numbers. Figure ATLEAST another 1k for the turbo kit used and your damn near close to the asking price of $5k.
Sure it doesn't look the best (I've seen far, far worse), but to some people it really doesn't matter...as long as it's fast.
I dont understand how you can look at this and think its worth anything close to 5000 , you must be crazy. You got a stock 85 stang engine, that someone threw 500 worth of junkyard parts on. Seriously, i forgot the backseat battery relocate, look at that disgrace. If there were more people like you in the world who had no clue what they were buying and didnt care as long as it was fast, hacked or not, then i would take the 800 stang i just bought and throw twins on it and sell it for 6000. For 5.000 your gettin nothing but a hacked up headache and it would take another 2000 at the minum to have a nice car. IT needs wheels and tires, the interior is gutted and the panels are scraftched and scuffed, the battery relocated needs to be done the correct way.The car needs a good paint job, and there is some rust i would look into. The tailpipes look like ****, the trim is trashed and peeling everywhere, the seats are torn and ripping, let alone look under the hood of that thing. It looks like a couple of teenage tech school dropouts put it together.its absolutely horendous
yes it has 10 holes wheels that make the car look like a P.o.s, big deal. Thats not my idea of a 10 second capable car. Thats a thrown together cobbled up pile that may run 10's who knows and eventually fall apart or breakdown due to being a cobbled together heap. And everybody knows your not going to get what you put into it, he may have 3000 dollars worth of parts, used parts ,that are only worth 1/2to 3/4 of what they originally cost. For 5000 somebodies gettin a real sleeper alright, gonna be sleeping in the junkyard where it looks like it came from. Its a stock 85 302 longblock. Now you tell me, is a tko and stock engine with turbos on it worth 5grand to you.cuz thats about all your gettin.
Yet the fact remains, that it comes with not one but two sets of wheels. Just because you don't care for the way they look doesn't mean others dont. Some people are really into the sleeper look, and that's where those wheels fit in perfectly.
You keep on complaning about it being cobbled together yet the only thing that looks "cobbled" is the battery tray and engine wirin, both of which can be cleaned up/fixed for cheap.
If you were to buy that car you would have no problem getting $2500+ for the aftermarket parts he has on it (excluding the turbo kit). That's what they are worth, not new...but used. Again, add what you could get for the turbo kit (easily $1k) and the price of the car ($1500) and you have just broke even.
So now, what exactly is so overpriced about it?
The people who can't see past some dirt, grime, and uncleanliness, might never own great vehicles. If you saw what some of these gorgeous cars on Stangnet started as, some of you might cringe and run, others grab them and make them something great!
