Haha, barely had the car 2 days and already an issue.

Anyways, it's a 1995 5.0 5spd manual. Original v8 car.

basic bolt ons. tfs heads, mild cam, cobra upper and lower, ect..

anyways. driving the car around all day today. started making a weird whining noise from under the hood between 1500-2500 rpm's while accelerating the engine/driving.

as the day went on, noise became constant. while normally accelerating onto an on ramp..all of a sudden the whinning noise got real bad and the motor died.

wont restart at all, turns over fine, still have compression..just wont fire up at all..doesnt even sound like its trying.

any good ideas? hehe

Any help is greatly appreciated. dont want this to sour my tastes of 5.0's. :nice:

Welcome to the boards!

Maybe Matt or Paul can move this to Tech - it'll get more views there probably. :nice:

Have you checked for spark? When a motor turns over easier than normal, often spark is missing.

If it is, check for injector pulsing. If it's gone too, chances are the PIP took a dump.

If you're missing only spark, the TFI module or igntion coil are likely bad. Put a test light across the electrical connector (two wires in a grey connector IIRC) on your coil. Crank the engine. If the test light flashes but you have no spark, the coil is likely bad.
If the test light does not flash, check the positive coil (electrical) wire for 12 volts with the key on. If you have it, the TFI module is likely bad.

Good luck.

Checked for spark, don't have any. If I can get ahold of the aformentioned test light, gonna try to test the module.

Another issue is, car was custom tuned while under the ownership of the previous owner. So I have no idea what the timing is at, so dunno what to set it to with the new one.

I tossed this in Tech for ya. It definitely sounds the part for it being the distributor that went bad. I'm thinking along the same lines as JT (Hissin), it has the symptoms of the PIP being shot. Checking for injector pulsing will probably be the determining factor here, as well as seeing if the fuel pump primes when you turn on the ignition. Might not be a bad idea to pop off your distributor cap and look down in the bowl for a lot of metal shavings, since the PIP has a tendency to leave some there when it goes.

I would assume you set it to 10 deg. that seems like the logical place to put it at before you tune. But if timing was advanced before it came in the shop and they were too lazy to set it at 10 deg. who knows where its at... If you can call the previous owner...maybe ask him if he knows.
