I took my '66 coupe to Atlanta Dragway last night and bettered my previous best of 13.91 last year and my best 1/8 mile of 8.91 in March of this year.

Combo:
1971 model 302 with dished!! (I know) pistons
stock TW heads
Comp cam XE268H
RPM intake
650 Demon VS
Edge 3200 converter
1 5/8" headers w/2.5" exhaust
8" rear w/3.55's
215/60 14 BFG Drag radials on stock steelies.

60'..... 2.013
330....5.492
1/8....8.435
MPH...82.90
1000..11.020
1/4....13.230
MPH...101.53

My 60' still sucks but is much better than the 2.2's I had with the TCI 2400. My 1/8 seems pretty good, as well as the mph. It seems I am down on power on the top end by only gaining 19mph. Is this a correct assumption?
I only have a few tenths to go to be in the 12's and I want it badly. I am thinking a little steeper gear to get me off the line better. Would a single plane intake help my combo on the top end?
I have done absolutely zero tuning of the Demon. I haven't even experimented with the timing either. 17 initial and about 39-40 total. All I did last night was adjusted tire pressure (15 seemed best)and shift points. Most shifts were in the 5500-5700 range.
I realize my compression is killing me but I want to get this combo in the 12's before I think about my future stroker combo8)

you should pull a plug after you run and see what color it is durring W-O-T, if it is white... go up in jets till it turns tan.

keep on adding jet to the carb till you mph doesn't go up any more, then your times will follow.

BTW... very good times for your combo

good carb tune and traction you'll be nocking on 12's door :nice:

I really like the cheap mods. I will try to optimize my current combo with a jet kit and playing with the timing a bit.

When checking plugs, should I check them at the end of ths strip after I get my slip? Or is it just fine to take the return road back to the pits and check them?

Yes, the heads are twisted wedge. The XE268H makes it's power from 1600-5800 rpm. I would rather have the XE274H in it but that will probably have to wait till I do the stroker.

Driving back to the pit could skew the results. Most tuners say brand new plugs and coast to a stop in neutral with the engine shut off. I would just jet it by mph. Low cr motors like a little extra timing, but your seems a little high. What ever you do make only one change at a time or you will never know the results off each change. And if you are really serious, keep notes in a log book.
