I don't think Graham is faster then me at all. I think we would be a very close race. Because while yes i was running slicks and the slicks were better than my 35 series 18" rubber for traction, they still were not optimal and still spun more that I would prefer, I couldn't launch the car over 2500 without burning through second, as there is no traction compound on street legal days, and the track was cold so traction was definately not optimal, had it been I'll bet a 1.8 60' could have been achieved, and a better time yet, not mention there was a fairly strong headwind I think around 40 km/h. Guess we will have to wait till next year to settle this as I made my car a deal that if it performed well for me yesterday I would drive it nice from now until next summer!!!

Past 6500 and you are asking for big time issues with the stock crank. You need a forged crank to take it up to and over 7000.

Say that again. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the stock crank. I know of cars using that crank for 8500 RPMs+ and well over 800 HP at the wheels with NO ISSUES. The Rods and Pistons on the other hand...

Yeah well my tuner says otherwise. Especially on a street car. A race motor, who cares the sponsor buys you anouther one. With the knowledge he has had first hand from people trying to use the stock crank for high RPM use trust me they have issues.

So unless you have built countless mod motors with over 800+ HP without a falure. I think I will take my advice from him.

That is fine and dandy, however there are street cars pushing over 7000 RPMS on the stock crank, with no issues. KenB who had the fastest N/A 2V used the stock crank in his car and it went past 7500 RPM without issue.

There is quite a few builder's who have pushed the limits of the 2V crank and have not broke it. Just because 1 builder says it is bad doesn't mean it is. Tim is not always right and this is one of those cases.

To each thier own.

I would rather have the peace of mind knowing that at 600+ HP that the part I cheaped out on isn't going to fail.

Especially at high RPM with the stock oiling system.

Alright, show me someone who has failed a 2V crank where the crank was the issue? I haven't found one yet.

27 replies and only one congrats on the awesome time....
You guys make me laugh, its ok to admit that a girl can drive and dare I say has a faster car then some. Its quite easy to say "with this, or with that, I would be faster", or "with all my mods, its a 12 second car", bottom line, time slips talk, no disputing that.

With that said, congrats on a kick ass time!

Sorry alex, kind of hijacked the thread good job.

But as for the stock crank failing, no I have not heard of anyone yet either. But just like any other build up why cheap out on a crucial engine component. Let see you try that with the 3v. As far as I have heard they are worse for breaking then the 2v.

Kind of a disappointing day for me. My best was a 15.7 @ 87, but I was hoping to improve on the 15.6 @88 I ran last week. I ran a bunch of 15.9s and 16.0s too. I did have a few wicked reaction times though, I think a .010 and a .030, which I'm pretty proud of. Part of the problem was I did a 1-D-1 shuffle and messed up my TV cable (I had it set perfectly before that too ) I tried adjusting it back to where it was, but it wouldn't shift at over 4000 after that.

Alex, I saw one of your runs with a 1.9 60' and a 14.2. I figured you would be proud of that. Good work

Congrats on the great time Alex!
Graham:You won't hurt anything shifting like that once in a while but I always found that the engine layed down over 5500 rpm and that reving it much past 6000 didn't help in the least.HOWEVER with the 3.73's you will have an extra shift to make which will slow your time just a hair. If you're going to run her hard,I'd shift at 6400 in first,6100 in second and let her run through the traps at 6-6100 in third. It's something you'll have to play with.

my 2 cents on the 2v crank-6500 is ok at stock to stock plus 50 hp. You would probably find the pistons and rods ok at that level too. Much beyond that (either rpm or hp)and a Cobra crank(stronger/better balanced/knife edged from factory) would seem to be the prudent thing.
