New Guy w/ EGR valve question

Hey fellas, I'm new to the board; You guys have a really good thing going here!

Anyhow, I have a 94 GT and recently noticed a clicking sound coming for the EGR assembly. Anybody else experience this? Also, I know this is going to sound retarded, but what does detonation/pinging sound like? Please keep in mind that I'm not an experienced mechanic before you laugh! Thanks for the help guys.

Pinging sounds like someone knocking around a ping pong ball in the engine.. seriously.. thats what it sounds like to me..

You notice it if it happens.. The car will run kinda shatty too.

I noticed a chattering noise soon after an intake manifold swap that lasted for a min or so then went away. After inspection I noticed that the bolt holding the pipe off my egr going to my headers had spun itself off. I applied some RTV to the threads before I wrenched it back on and it has been fine since.

Scared the crap out of me but ended up being nothing at all.
