The mid and low lift flow are the balls. But I'm still wondering about the shorter stroke you're using. I'd think with those numbers you'd want more piston speed to increase the velocity to use up all that flowing goodness. Knowing now what the kind of heads you're be bolting on compared to what you thought you would be running, would you still pick the 331? I think you may have touched on it before, I know you picked that stroke for a reason... can you explain the reasoning again for the slow kids in the classroom?![]()

That would be a sweet combo.....
347 c.i. shortblock 10.5-1 to 11.0-1 compression
AFR 185 cnc comp package heads
custom cam
ported Holley Intake
90mm throttle body
1 3/4 longtubes
etc....
450rwhp.............![]()
I may need to change my sig in the "have not yet bought" category
Will these things run under $2k or is that wishful thinking?

Very nice cylinder heads.
AFR quality is top-notch.
I await the fox style swap. There is a few HP just off the style of swap!
are you keeping the 165s for a future car or selling them too?
Thanks guys!
I should finish the fox TB swap tonight or this weekend. I have to drill a hole in the plate that bolts to the firewall and wire in the TPS connector. I removed the cruise control cable last night (it was kind of a PITA) and now wonder how I'm going to make a fox cruise cable work. If I get it all buttoned up this week I "should" have dyno numbers for the TB swap next week, then these 165's will come off and the 185's will go on and I'll repeat the test.
They have a test on those heads in July of Car Craft. They made 479hp on a .030 over 302 with a carb, vict.jr intake, 13:-1 pistons and a huge cam.
Pretty impressive considering stock block, crank and rods!
Are you sure it was these heads and not just the regular 185's? I'm 99% certain that these things JUST and I mean JUST became available. They had a set for their own testing for a few months, but mine were one of the very first production castings.

Thanks guys!

They actually called them comp 185s. The article went into detail about the special cnc porting and moving the exhaust opening up .125 (i think)
They also said stuff about light trick valves and other differences from the regular 185's.
I will double check tonight. I can probably scan the article tomorrow and email it to you if you wish.
