As alot of you guys know ive been having some low hp/ high tq numbers from my combo. :nonono:

I'm using procomp heads and a shop actually recommended just getting a blower and cam because my engine is low compression and was designed for that purpose anyways. My compression is about 9.

My old dyno numbers looked like 302 HCI RWHP (just below 300) and 497lbs TQ. Would a blower help my car rev highewr than the 4300rpm it stopped making power at? BTW my cam is a bit modest for the 383 i have too.

Also how much benefit would AFR 205's give me on a low compression motor???

Personally i just want the AFR's and see what happens. But if i can get my 500-600 RWHP by just giving the motor a ton of boost ill just keep the heads i have.

Personally I would first want to make the car put down numbers that were reasonable for a 383. At the same time throwing a blower on would definitely make up for the current low numbers.

Didn't Pokageek have trouble with Procomp heads being junk?

that is some bizarre numbers. a blower will definitely take back some HPs in the higher RPMs but your cam will have to be able to make that kind of power in the higher end.

better heads and cam for sure. i see no sense in having a blower push more air into a restrictive set-up.

if AFR are the heads you are looking at call them up, see if you could try and get the compression up is a smaller chamber.

also from my understanding you don't really need a motor with a low compression ratio of 9 for it to be a blower or boost ready. with higher compression you can make the same horse power with less boost. there's is a cool chart at the local machine shop i know. i have to take a picture of it.

this is a no brainer ... both!

or just drop in a LS1 :nice:

lol i can see the LS1 becoming the new Chuck Norris

seriously tho, better heads can never hurt, and i'd start with them. then boost it later and the gains from the boost will be even greater

Hmmm A Chuck Norris motor would work...Or maybe i can get a LS9 And Put ford badges on the top?:nice: Or even vet the new GM hybrid v8's built by Aliens in Egyptian pyramid factories!!!

Yeah but seriously something in my gut tells me to get the motor running right before adding boost....even if i can get the desired outcome by using the blower as a big bandaid. I just wanted to get everyone elses opinion before i dropped a couple grand in either direction.

I got a comment and then ... A question :)

I saw in the sig an auto trans is being used
so
You know right off the bat ..........

Dyno results most likely are gonna be a bit misleading

My Q would be ............

Have you found at least half a dozen combos equipped with parts
you desire and did the results they got seem to be what you want

For comparison, his c.i. are not far off from mine...31 well al little. So whatever I do, if he does the same he will be roughly 31rwhp less. This is all speculation but....

I have 10:45:1 compression and with 205's and LT's there is no reason I could not hit very close to 500rwhp :nice: as I am already over 450 with a very basic tune on my new PMS. But subtract out your compression..maybe 450 or so? With 225's, he could get more..

Should you go with 205's? Yes. 225's maybe..not sure how they would do with boost. Anyone else?

So to summarize, NA and 225's you too should be able to hit close to 450-470rwhp or so. If you go a little crazy and buy a cam like mine..or buy my cam. I'll sell it to you for less than I paid. However, if you want better driveability, you will have to go with a quieter cam but dont expect as much rw, 225's or not. Maybe give rnh performance a call in my sig. Rick can help you out if you are specific about what you want.

I would highly suggest slowing down and figuring out what you want your car to be in the end. Right now I would say get a set of good heads and a cam. But figure out what the goals of the car is, that way you won't spend your money twice. If you are dead set of having a supercharged car then get a cam that would be good for that. If you want to turbo the car then get a cam for that. If you want the car to be all motor then there you go. If I were you I would skip over the AFR 205s and go straight to the AFR 225s. You have enough motor to use them. Your compression is low but nothing crazy low so you can still make power now N/A with that. I think you should definately go with a custom cam however. Custom cam and a set of good heads, your car N/A should be around the 400rwhp mark.

Why don't you just ask him if he has taken his car to the track?

What is the likelyhood of someone with his combination? Come on..

Taking the car to the track and seeing what it runs combined with the weight of the car would be a better way of figuring out what the car really makes power wise rather than looking all over the net and seeing what Jimmy Joe in Alaska makes on the dyno with his car that is kinda-sorta the same thing.

He did not ask about track times

You think he can't find some combos close to what he wants to do
when he searches the E N T I R E world wide web

Come On :)

Honestly, I think by going with the blower, the car would be more docile on the street. Big cams and lopey idles are fun, but they rattle bolts loose. Car would probaby get pretty respectable gas mileage with the blower too. I think that would be a better investment of your money.
