New in this place, 01 Cobra, couple ?'s

Hey whats up, just got an 01 Cobra last week, realizing slowly little mods that the last owner did to it. It appears as though I have a steeda shifter, not a short throw, steeda shift knob, and what seems to be a MAC performance intake and then just yesterday after really cleaning the car up and looking at the engine, I've got a Steeda Timing Adjuster, no clue what else the guy did to the car, might try and contact him somehow. But I was just wondering what degree was the best to set the T/A at for my 01 Cobra, I've searched and searched through all the forums and found that between 14-16 degrees is best, but haven't found any for my car specifically. I'm looking to add a few mods here and there, bump my ride up to around 400 rwhp, hopefully around same torque, any suggestions there. Looking to go all N/A. Holla back if you've got some ideas. I just picked up a Laser red '01 myself a couple of weeks ago, it was stock but I just added basically the same mods as what you mentioned. I think 16 degrees is the most anyone runs on the timing but I'm still waiting to install mine to see for sure. Looks like you went to that place in Brockton, he has a lot of performance Fords there. Good luck with it.

thanks, yeah, the cobra did come from that place in brockton, traded in a 2000 civic, quite a step up lol. car is sooooooooo nice though, a lot of little things i'm going to do to in the next few months, change up the front grill emblem to the cobra, do the stainless steel billet "COBRA" insert on the rear bumper, throw in some subframe connectors, change up the audio system completely, then towards the end of the year hopefully garage the car and work on the performance stuff over the winter. I want to try and pick up some random 4x4 jeep or suv for the winter, if anyone knows of one for sale for $2000 and under. lata though, keep coming with the ideas

Nice ride man!!!!! i looked at few 01s at verona motors theu seemed kinda shady to me. But hey congrats on the ride bro...may i suggest some gears as a first mod 4.10s minimum

If it's still under warranty you may check the TR 3650 issues thread as there is a TSB about to come out for that tranny. Other than that awesome car. 400 will be tough N/A. I would go with 3.73 or 4.30 if you stay N/A and plan on doing 1/4 mile

Nice choice

like psnous said, 400 to the wheels is gonna be real tough... you would definitely need to crack into the engine and do a head and cams swap, maybe a stroker. Its ALOT cheaper to through on nitrous or a blower.

I just bought an 01' Cobra myself. Definitely get some gears in that thing, I just installed 4:10's and it is like a different car! Might wanna throw a pro chamber and some cat backs on as well. Oh, and sub-frame connecters sooner rather than later, it'll keep the bitch from rattling and twisting. Congrats on the bumpin' ride!

400 at the back wheels N/A is going to be a feat. Chris on the boards has a 4.6 bored to a 5.0 with headwork, cams, and about all the bolt-ons and his made 370rwhp, which is pretty damn impressive if you ask me. A 5.4 may give you the 400 mark.

I'd set that timing adjuster to 14*, just make sure that it doesn't cause detonation(pinging) and if it does back it down a degree or so

And the Steeda Tri-Ax is a short throw...as are most aftermarket shifters...

To get to 400rwhp N/A you'll need a bigbore or stroker 5.0 kit...bolt-ons won't get you close...the max with just boltons that I've seen on the 99+ cars is around 330rwhp or so...

if only it were that easy engine is the cleanest engine i have ever seen, looks like brand new belts, hoses, everything

i think it may just be a steeda shifter handle and not the complete short throw set. what do you think about a supercharger though?

A supercharger will get you to 400rwhp and you'll have a pretty safe tune too still...about 450-470 is max on these engines before they start stressing too much even though there are some cars that have run with 500+ with no problems on the stock bottom end...Just be sure you have the money for a rebuild if you supercharge though...Just in case...

Also bought a 01 cobra from Veracka in March, Convert though. Do an oasis report from a local dealer and see what was done. Usually they dont replace hoses for no reason on that new of a car. Mine had a replaced motor from SVT with less than 200 mi when I bought it. Nice to see what was done to it during the warranty period.

have an 01 tried it all N/A with stock motor. longtubes o/r and catback, gears, timing at 14 will knock if any higher esp if hot outside. ditch the mac cai have heard of drivability issues. C&L mass air kit much better buy. all this best punch for $$$.
