Can't say I agree with any of this. There have been a jizzillion flow tests and dyno runs over the years that prove that there is very little performance difference between the 3 different styles of GT40-style upper intakes. Besides, if the upper was really the defining piece, guys like Tom Moss wouldn't find so much performance by porting the lowers.

It's a moot point though, because even ported, the lowers barely hang with the aftermarket intakes.

I don't doubt that you saw rpm gains from a box, not trying to dispute that. That's what boxes do. It's just a common misconception that the Explorer intake is somehow inferior to the other two.

I'll have to find the flow charts online to make everyone happy I guess. (Not dyno test, but flow charts.)

The Tubular upper is the best flowing over a broad range.
The stock 94-95 upper is the next best performer (suprise!)
Next is the 93 upper.
Then the Exploder was somewhere between the 93 and the stock HO upper.

If I find that chart, I'll post it.

Yes, Tmoss does get plenty out of the lower, however, I am quoting Tmoss from a conversation we had when I say the GT40 lower is a great piece. Granted he may have been talking more about it's potential than it's stock form, but that's what he said. The aftermarket lowers don't really beat the GT40 lower, it's the uppers that make the difference.

So ur saying before i touch the intake get these heads some work and get a different cam? I didn't think the x cam was a baby cam for this setup. Checking my pvc putting this thing together i was just over the tolerances that i heard you were to have. Maybe I heard wrong or messed up checking my clearances. I can't remember exactly because I built this almost a year ago but I think I was told .1 and .08 or something like that?
what clearance are you taking about...''piston to valve''?
those heads arent worth porning money into... and yes that cam is baby. its consider a midlift cam. don't get me wrong its a good cam for a street car that you're looking to have fun with.. but that cam limits you along with those heads. what goals are you trying to achieve with this combo???

i seen in one of you're post you're car doesn't even run right... i would work on getting that corrected before you go playing with anything else..

lol you do that. but i know for a fact that ''this'' head cam combo don't flow close to the ''MAX'' of any of those ''GT40'' style intakes...

Don't put words in my mouth.
I said that if he was running a real Cobra upper, he was pretty much maxed out on the potential of the intake.
He wanted a better flowing intake, and if he told me he had an Exploder upper, I would have told him he had room to make the GT40 better with a real Cobra or tubular upper, but he didn't. Therefore, without porting, he was basically maxed out on the potential of that intake. I was not saying anything in relation to his engine. Get a life.

I didn't change a thing.
YOU are misquoting me on purpose.

I am done here, this is someone else's thread.
You get the last word, but it will apparently be another lie.
My posts speak for themselves, and are a matter of record that anyone can go back and look at, and see that my words are not what you are quoting me as saying.

Jared Hess sorry to say..your combo is way under the potential of you're cobra intake. the only way you are going to out grow that intake with ur bottom end. is if u flow over 300 cfm.. witch will never happen with the heads cam combo you have. so to stop all this ENET chest pumping and ENET expert talk.. that's it cut and dry. THE END.

I wasn't disagreeing with anybody im just trying to get some info from here i relized these heads werent the best when i bought them but for $700 i didn't think i was going wrong with a 306 over stock e7 headsand an x over a b cam. I didn't have $1500 to put in afr heads and was trying to keep my build where if i wanted to i could make money off this car instead of losing my a$$. I'm pretty happy with it so far i'm hoping to run in the 12's which i don't think is out of the question since i ran mid 13s with ALOT less then what I have now. Right now the car runs awesome down the road its just my idle i was having trouble with. I have my build total right around 5 or 6k including buying the car. I'm actually just trying to learn some more cause I know i'll end up wanting bigger everybody does. So thanks for the info and don't think your hurting my feelings everybody has opinions.

Also i'm a little new to the efi game so hence the curiosity about the intakes.

You're on the right path.
That cam and heads don't qualify as "baby".

My advice to you is get with Tmoss and see what he recommends.
Then you'll know you have an expert opinion, not just internet hype.
He's a member here, and will answer your PMs.

My old GT40 next to my TFS-R. Like a knife at a gun fight lol.

Not saying the right answer for everyone is the TFS-R and that GT40s should be melted down and turned into beer cans... The '40 has its place, and that's usually on mild 302s. But if you're serious about making power, aftermarket intakes are a leg up on the '40 no matter how you slice it.
