i still think the dss stuff is all advertising b.s no matter what it is still a stock block and will still break in half no matter how fancy the cnc program is the girdle will held save stuff when the clock breaks, but it is all smoke a mirrors, but enough hatin' it all looks really good and i hope it hold together for ya,


I agree 100% that it's really not any stronger than a regular stock block. I really wanted to go with a Dart block, but it just wasn't in the budget. I mainly went with DSS because I wanted something short notice, and they had it in-stock ready to go. My car is mainly a street car and I don't really abuse it, so hopefully this will last. To their credit, the machine work on the block, girdle, and pistons all looks real nice.

Yeah, it's just a stock block unfortunately. It does have better rods in it. They build Dart-based shortblocks as well, but that would have run about $5000

I got the clutch, bell, trans, exhaust, etc in today. Did some finishing touches under the hood, and it's finally up and running. It was backfiring out the exhaust at first and I thought I had the distributor off by a tooth. After messing with it for 30 minutes I realized that I had mixed up #1 and #2 spark plug wires. Amateur mistake. Anyway, it runs good now, I'll post some new pics later.

Looks good Mike. I give you props for going DSS. Everyone knows the block will spit but that engine should last a long long time as long as you don't take it to the breaking point...PB

Yup, it runs and drives great. I took it to a friends house yesterday and had the A/C and cruise control on, and no problems to speak of. Just need to put some break in miles on it now.

Sweet deal.. My father and I are restoring and 84 t-top hatch it was a 3.8 v-6 but i got every thing converted over to a fuel in jected 5.0 from an 86. So its basicly gonna be like an 86gt with sonic blue paint and an svo style hood. We havent decided what way we are going with the engine but it should be sick. Nice car man good work..

everyone is talking about the DSS stuff (among others ) being over-rated and breaking. their stuff is just a cleaned up stock block right? well if a man was to run a NA 306 or 331 and make 320 - 400 fwhp, wouldnt that still be "safe". stock block holds 400 or 500 hp?
