New sound started coming from the motor tonight, has me worried...

no but you need as much work done that will cost as much as a new motor...unless you are really willing to get your hands really dirty...

keep in mind bro - it's still a big if on whether or not it's a bearing, but here's what I know so far about them...

you will need new rod and main bearings ($80)
you're crank machined (spun or worn bearings chew your crankshaft)
maybe new rods. (same as crank)

only hole in the wall shops are willing to just replace your bearings and put it back together - and even if they take that route they still need to either pull the engine out or drop the entire suspension so they can get the oil pan off.

Anyone can jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been himming and hauling about what I'm gonna do w/ mine for awhile and I've done lots of homework on it!

My car recently atarted making a similar noise. Mine only does it in neutral though. Like when I push the clutch in and rev it slightly it sounds perfectly normal. BUT when I put it in neutral and rev it with the clutch out it makes a slight grinding noise between 500 and 1000 RPMs. My car idles a little below 1000 RPMS like 800 or something but between 500 and 1000 RPMS is when I hear the noise. Almost like marbles but not really bad. Just started doing it this winter and Im racking my brain as to what it must be. Figured it must be clutch or tranny related since it only does it when the clutch is out and in neutral. Yours sounds worse than mine though because mine doesnt do it when driving.

Mine dose this also around 2,000 RPM in first gear. I'v always wondered what the sound was. I only notice it when my engine is cold.

Wierd because when my engine is cold it will idle at about 1000 RPMS and when I rev it a little there is no noise. But after it warms up it will idle a little under 1000 RPMS and when I rev it I hear the noise. Nothing when driving though.
