Since Ive had my car, the speedometer has read waaay too slow. Doing 2200 rpm on the highway, it reads about 50 mph. Car is a manual with 3.27 gears. I got the red gear from 50Resto.com and it still does the same thing. Is there anything else than can be wrong? The gear didnt make a bit of difference, btw I pulled out a cream colored gear, dont even know what ratio that is for.

If changing the gear did not make any difference, then you porbably have an issue with your speedometer or the cable.

Cream is an odd color for a tranny gear. It could be yellow or tan, although tan is an AOD speedo gear.

To know exactly which speedometer driven gear you need, we need to know a few things:

Number of teeth on the speedometer drive gear, or the gear's color.
Tire size.
Rear axle ratio.

Take a flashlight and look in the hole that the speedometer driven gear goes into. You should be able to see the drive gear, and note its color. A 7-tooth gear is yellow, and an 8-tooth gear is green. On the off-chance that you have a 6-tooth gear installed, it would be black.

An 18-tooth (yellow) driven gear would be correct for a pre-1990 5-speed, with stock, 225/60R15 tires. A 21-tooth (red) gear would be correct for 1990 and later 5-speeds with those same tires.

run the numbers on your trans...make sure it is what you think it is. Then get the proper gear
