Well, not really "new", just been a LOOONG time. Anyway, I just picked up an 86 GT rolling chassis with the intent to do an LS1 turbo setup in, however after some though, I decided to just do a budget build so my wife can race it as well. I was looking at possibly doing a 5.8 with AOD out of a 94 F350 2wd that a buddy has.

Now, my questions are-

1) my car is currently setup for a carb, but I have an ECU and harness from a 91 (I believe) Stang to put in if need be- will this work with the 351 as well? What do I need to swap on the 351 for it to be compatible with my ECU/harness?

2) what intake do I use on the 351? Is it worth keeping the dual butterfly truck intake/TB setup?

3) what is out there to tune with? I use HP Tuners for my LSx stuff and am unfamiliar with what is out there for the earlier Ford stuff. Last thing I used was a Crane Interceptor- that's how long it's been since I've touched a Ford lol.

4) should I just say "to hell with it" and go carbed? A consideration, but if it ends up turbo, I really don't want to do a blow through.

5) how strong is the AOD and does it have any computer hookup to it, like for lockup, shifting or anything? I can go C4 as well, but prefer the OD for cruising.

Any input here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You don't want to use the truck intake/tb. As far as EFI intakes go, you're really only left with Trick Flow (that's what I would suggest, with a good set of heads), GT40, and Edelbrock uppers and lowers.

You could always go carbed now, and then in the future when you get ready and have all the turbo stuff, sell off your carb stuff and swap to EFI.

The 91 Mustang EEC and wiring should work fine with the 351w.

I hear good things about the twEECer (sp?) if you go EFI.

The AOD works off a throttle valve (T.V.) cable.

EEC wiring might work good with the Engine, but its not Compatible with the Car.....

For the Tuner, go with Moates Quarter Horse...........hard to beat the price and being able to adjust on the fly....

Thanks for the info guys. I think I am just going carbed for the time being, then if I do go forced induction, I will decide then if I am going to use a blow through or go EFI then. Any advice on a decent cam for the 351? Someone was telling me I can't run much lift in that motor because of PTV clearance- is that true?

I know "budget" isn't a word for a race car, but by budget, I mean cheaper to build than my 800whp twin turbo 05 GTO or if I decide to build my CTS-V :D. I am a GM guy now, really love the LSx platform! I used to be big into the stangs in the late 80's to mid 90s, but haven't touched one in quite a while...

liljoe- as for the wiring not being compatible with the car- that's not "that" hard to overcome. I have done 86 harnesses in newer cars and newer harnesses in 86 cars in the past. It is not "plug and play", but it does work if you go further into the car than just the two plugs by the brake booster. This 86 currently doesn't have any EEC wiring at all, so I would be starting from scratch no matter what I do.

Thanks again for the info guys! It looks like I am going to do a carbed 351 with spray/c4 combo. The OD in the truck is an E40 and I don't want to deal with it. Also, I found the TwEECer after posting here, looks like it should do what I need if/when I go EFI with it.

edit- oh yeah, is the 94 351 a roller motor?
