Hi there fellas

I have just aquired a 90' Mustang LX, 2.3 5Spd.
I am the third owner of the car. The car was bought new by an older gentleman (Have records), and then sold after a few years to an older lady. The car has 160,000kms and is grey, The car is really in near mint condition with a few small bubbles oveer the rear drivers side wheel well . Have to get those fixed. Overall I am pretty happy with the car, with me being 17 it is my second vehicle (sold my truck due to 9MPG) . I am wondering though in the future what can I do to get more power out of this car? How hard is a 5.0 swap? Or should I just put a new cam and try to find a turbo for the 2.3?

Thanks in advance for any insight,
Shane

the 5.0 swap done right is far more difficult than some make it out to be. its more than dropping in a motor. if you want it to run EFI you need the computer and wiring harness, you have to change the fuel pump and fuel lines...you need bigger brakes, a new trans and a new rear. stiffer springs will help tremendously with the weight of the bigger motor.

if you want more power the most economical way to go is to pull your 2.3 and swap in a 2.3 turbo motor. dont turbocharge the stock motor, too complicated to do right. the 2.3 turbo swap has been done a bunch of times and results in a really fun car. look up the stinger performance website for parts and tech info on the swap

You don't need to change the fuel pump, both the 5.0 and 2.3 are 88lph pumps.

But you need to change the fuel lines

That is great a 5spd 2.3L. I almost never see any of those, most all of them have the auto so it is nice to see a 5spd 4banger. 5.0 swaps are pretty difficult and pretty expensive to start out with, but you can get big HP out of them. I however if your after quik power would do a turbo on your 2.3L. You still get great gas milage which is why you ditched your truck in the 1st place, and you will make almost as much HP as a 5.0 HO.
