Ask Ed's opinion what different heads will do with the cam he designed for you. I personally would continue working with what you have as opposed to dropping $2000 on the cnc trickflows.

Ive already said that he has told me that it would be fine on a 205cc head I would just have to upgrade the valve springs. Whatever I sold the 185's for would also off set the cost of 205's

I have a good intake, well designed custom cam, free flowing exhaust, where is the rest of my power going that should be there

Who tuned it? Have you tried Mike Dez down in Seekonk, MA? Its a hike from Maine but the guy is pretty good. He did my uncle's 10 second 2004 GT. Thats a 10 second, naturally aspirated, 400+ RHWP, 7500 RPM, 281 stroked to a 302.

That can be driven out to get ice cream with the lady, and knocks down about 20+ mpg on the high way. Guy knows his stuff.

I thinkk a set of 1 3/4 longtubes and 4.10 gears will really make a lot of difference. I like the trickflow 205cc heads better for your combo but I think your current combo still has some left in it like everyone else thinks. The 205cc heads I think will make more power through your current powerband but also extend the power band and move your peaks up a little which may cause a even taller gear to be ideal. I think thats the reason everone keeps saying that you may need a even taller gear if you switch heads.

Something you may need to think about is if the AFR 185's have a 58cc combustion chamber you may lose some compression with the larger 65cc combustion chamber that I think the 205 TF's have. Milling the heads may be needed to get the compression back up.

a higher gear then 4.10's with bigger heads or 4.10's being a must if I do bigger heads?

I can do 4.10's now, heads would have to wait until the spring.

FYI

Scanned the codes tonight threw a 111,113 and 511

111- System Pass

113- Intake Air Charge Temperature sensor above maximum voltage -*40

511- Read Only Memory (ROM) Test failure.

^^^^ The 511 worries me.

The 511 code I think happens on all cars with a chip installed.

That would be a relief.

The code 113 keeps kicking on due to the IAC sensor which I have replaced, there is a brand new ford sensor in their now and its still throwing that code.

Got an e-mail from the tuner he said the chip will throw that code but the 113 has been poping up for awhile now and even w/ the new sensor

intake air charge temp sensor is IAT, not IAC. the IAT is located on the air inlet pipe and the IAC is on the throttle body.

higher than 4.10 gears with the larger heads. Sorry for not being more clear in my original post.

I replaced the IAT thats what was broken.

It also throws a 998 (running in failure mode) when its started.

Hey buddy, this is steven (sn95forums).

Your obviously dead set on a set of heads. Unless you really racing the car continuously, and putting it on the track every weekend, I would just go ahead and change out the heads. Lord knows what they will do for the car. An average drag racer would race the hell out of the car till it had nothing left, and was going as fast as possible. I've done it before, many times. Put a big set of heads, new camshaft, port the intake, Fox swap, and LT's. You'll be much happier. You'll get your peak numbers, and be faster. Obviously somethings not quite right and your running out of either air or fuel.

The only guage I have is on the fuel rail so I cant see it while driving but being an NA engine w/ a 255 in tank pump and #36lb injectors I dont see why it would have a fuel issue. The two times its been on the dyno this year its showed no indication of running short on fuel.

The issue is that there is something else thats holding it back. I realize I need different gears to take care of the RPM issue at the track but the other issue is that its a 351 w/ H/C/I thats only putting down 340 when there are other guys w/ less cubes putting down more power. I know I could benifit from long tubes but thats not the only thing holding it back. I dont know why some are so adiment about saying to leave the heads they are fine w/ out even knowing the specs on them and what cc they are. The heads were put on when the car had a vortech on it so they were more suited for boost then for NA. I dont in anyway see how I could put on a set of TF 205cc heads and not pull a signifigant more amount of power then I am now. The rest of my combo is good I dont see anything that would be a restriction but I dont see why there is no reason I should not be pulling at least 1 HP per cubic inch. I should be up there w/ paul in the 380 range w/ the combo he had on his 331. In all honesty I just think there is something up w/ my heads as far as the intake or exhaust valves not being as good as they should be, Who knows I could be wrong but honestly what elese in my combo could it really be? What other part in my combo would be a major player as far as my power not being on par w/ where it should be?

If your cam guy has given you the green light for 205 heads and you seem to want them so get them when funds permit.

I will next spring. There is nothing else other then the heads that can be holding the combo back. No one else seems to have an answer for why my 351 puts out 340 at the wheels for anything other then that something is up w/ the heads being insufficient. Something is just not right when pauls 331 was putting out 380 w/ 165 AFR's
