well ive finally started. i am building a track only car that will be street legal so the mustang is on a more permanent hold until this car is on the track. i am sorry to say it not a ford of even a demestic so when it sees the 1/4 mile it might get in the 14s but probly not. its an 1986 325e that i picked up for 600$ and then will put about 5gs over then next little while to make this thing an ITA road race car. its dark blue for now but it will be black with a yellow stripe around the bottom eg tommy kendal's mustang in trans am in the early to mid 90s. and the class will lap portland at about 1.32 maybe even quicker oh and thats with all 12 corners. yes i still have plans on make my mustang an street leagl american iron car but that takes more parts and more time and i need to get out there and race this year before my lisence runns out and i need to start over.

Hehe you picked up a good car for it. Tons of aftermarket stuff for the E30's chassis but that engine is a turd. 6cyl with no hopes of ever making any kind of power. You thinking of doing the M3's S30/32 swap or even S14 in there or just leaving it as it is?

if i were to swap out the torque monster motor(135hp 180-185ftlbs) i would not be able to run in ITA. when done the 2.7 in the car will have about 170 whp and 210 wtq thats about a stock m52/m50 if i put the "I" motor cam in that alone will get me close to 200 200 but then i would not be able to race that car in ITA it would be an ITE car wich the new zo6 runs in.

exhaust is very restictive so you can do what ever you want you can run any computor as long as it in the stock box you can run any fuel you want and you can blue print and balance the motor, minor port work and you can bore it out to a max 40 over. there some other things to but i probly wont do those

no chance of putting a M30 in there?? the one the big sedans used?? Not sure what adders you can run, but there are guy's on roadfly with 635's putting down 500+rwhp. It is a BMW motor, if that helps for class rules..

well here are some pics, 2 i have more but these will do. as you can see i have already taken out most of the inside and the rear seats. i was going to weigh it yesterday but i forgot to but i guess they start close to 2800 not 3000 lbs so i hope i have not taken out to much as it is. race weight for the class is 2750 with driver so i want to be right around 2700 right now. being with out fuel cell and cage or coil overs and a bunch of other misc. things

not sure all i NEED to race my next race is to put a cage in cuz its just a novice race where there are no classes, but i was shooting for the end of september. not sure if i will be able to come up with enough $ soon enough to get everything orderd in time to get here, and for me to install all the parts

Too bad you can't transfer the Snapple sponsorship from the Mustang to the BMW :D

Good luck I hope you get it sorted out. Be sure to let me know when the first race is and I'll help in the pits and get some pics.

wow that is a lot of miles, but those cars run for ever. 6 years ago I had a 320i it still had the old 2002 engine with mechanical injection and a 4spd. I tell you, that more ran like a charm.
If you could change the motor without being hit on the class you should go with like an M10 or something like that. Awesome motors.

oh yeah if if i got the race for anything but racing i would probly have an s50(95 m3 motor) getting ready to install. i have a buddy that has done like 20 convertions. yes thats a lot of miles but its gotten the timeing belt every 40k valves adjusted every 15k the all the wheel bearing have been done in the last 100k most ofthe suspension which im replaceing has also been done in the last 100k so the car does not feel like it has 300k on it.

The S50 is a heavy motor, in a car as light as that it could plow through the corners, now that we're talking up in the air why not an LS1 swap :D nice and light motor with tons of power. Aggggr its late over here already. Bed time.

yep an ls1 would have a alot of power probly to much for the rear suspension. the s50 uses the same block as the m20 which is in the car yes it has a larger head but the intake is plastic over the metal one on the m20. now if this was a 240z from the 70s the ls1 would be my first choice for a motor swap
