newer lt1 trans am

a guy at work says that he was told with the mods he has, he is around 400 hp. he has a borla muffler that sounds like a glasspack(go figure), and a different filter on it. this can't be true. it is an automatic too. will this beat a new gt 5 speed. how about my 89 with all the mods i have. thanks.

LT1's are stout puppys for what they are, however you shouldn't have a problem taking him down in your fox.

yeah my neighbor has a 94 T/A with ram air, and borla... he says ill walk all over him... so now hes in the market for a Stang! another one bites the dust!

It's definitely nowhere near 400hp. Stock they're a little underrated at 275fwhp, so a muffler and filter didn't add 125hp. I would guess 250-275rwhp, but I'm not an lt1 expert. Not sure how it would run against those cars if it has a stock auto.

Must be some serious modding to get 400 in a lt1. Are you sure its an lt1 not an ls1. When you say "newer" that makes me think that. The ls1 came out in like what 98? And then still that number would be more like flywheel hp with some bolts ons. But if its an lt1 I wouldn't worry about it. If its an ls1 that another story.

youre prolly talking about an ls1 if youre saying newer. Still though if thats all he has done he sure isnt putting out 400.

They were a little underrated as my brother had an lt1 z28 6spd which he put out factory crank numbers at the wheels with just a catback and k+n. He was the second owner and the first owner was an older lady.

he says it's an lt1, i don't know the years and body styles of those cars. it's probably a 96 or around that.

it looks like this i believe. if it is this, he must not know what motor it has, or did these come with 2 different motors. all i know is, everytime he shows up to work he revs it up and it sounds so crappy. like a jeep with glasspacks. i just wanna show his car up but my car can't be legally driven and i am resigning that job this week.

The car in that picture is a 98 or newer... it's an LS1. The older one had a pointer nose and I believe the hood comes straight across where that one comes to a point in the middle.

I went with a friend to lunch one day in his lt1 with a a4 auto, he has a chip, mufflers, and a cold air. I told him to punch it, it wasnt anything spectacular, I coulds have absolutely killed him in my 86, with a very very mild hci, which was a b cam and a ported stock intake, and some e7 ported heads. His car just didnt pull very hard at all, youd beat him.

If you're right about his mods, he might have picked up 15hp, and that's giving him the benefit of doubt. Those cars in automatic form only ran a 14.0 at best from the factory. Rule of thumb would say that barring any slicks or drag radials, the car would be capable of a 13.8.

I think a new GT will do better than that. I'm confident your stang in good tune will polish him off.

ok i looked at it, it is the lt1 model car. and now that i think of it i have ridden in a camaro auto convertable with the lt1 and it was alright. ridden in a 96 vette but only cruised.
