I think I've ran out of bolt-ons. What can I do next for more power short of power adders or heads? I don't have the money for a supercharger or heads, and I don't want to run nitrous. The only suspension I might do are some rear control arms. What are everybody's ideas?

BRAKES!!! ...or perhaps an AFM N/A Powerpipe to replace ur MAC CAI? With a twEECer maybe? Also dont forget to put an AFPR on there to keep ur A/F ratio in check. A good tune is good news when u breakin em loose. :nice:

If you have a cowl hood u can put a 1" phonelic spacer between ur manifolds, if not u can go with the 3/8". Either one will add a little here or there.

Are you running auto or stick? You really need heads and cam to compliment the big MAF. I dont understand a MAF upgrade without a supporting cast, did it help? You are spinning real bad right? Check your trac lock, is it working? Gears may do you good, but it depends IMO.

Control arms are a good choice. You will see better traction and handling. Finding ways to remove weight are free and can only make you faster in most cases.

I agree, I never believed it till I slapped on the MM lowers. The car has a completely different pull now.

Thanks for the replies. I have a 5 spd, and already have gears and exhaust work done (except for headers). As for that CAI, I actually have it taken off right now, I'm having problems mating it with my MAF. They don't work together. I have a 1" spacer, but it's just sitting around because I don't have enough deck clearance. I really want more power, I don't have a huge traction issue, not enough to warrant much suspension. So how much will the 1.7 rockers help with stock heads? How much will the AFPR and a tune help? And what is a windage tray? I never heard of it before.

sell the 1" spacer to a buddy with a cowl hood, and pick up a 3/8" one, that should fit. The 1.7 rr should add about 10-15 fwhp because they are rollers and not the crap tappet (reduce a ****load of friction, which = more hp) The AFPR with a twEECer will probably be able to squeeze another 15-20 fwhp out of your setup if not more. As long as it hasnt already been tuned.

also if u have a 5speed an aluminum driveshaft will help u shift alot smoother because of the reduced spinning weight (inertia) the trans has to deal with when engaging and disengaging the clutch. Also drops a few lbs off ur weight.

I know you said you don't have the money, but I'm going to say you need heads. If you can't fork out enough for AFR's, get some GT40's, Thumpers, base model TFS's or Edelbrocks, something. Even if you keep the stock cam, you'll still have a huge gain. I would not be suprised if a set of heads knocked over a second off your quarter mile time. I will say though, that a good set of upper and lower arms would make a huge difference in handling and launch.

A windage tray is a shelf that sits in the oil pan, keeps oil from splashing up on the crank and gains you a few horsepower. All the stuff I listed and that has come up on this thread are good small gains and will make a difference collectively. My advice is do as much of is as you can at once or you won't notice it and may get frustrated ("this isn't working"). But 5 horsepower here, 10 pounds there, it all adds up. If you add 20 horses and knock 100 pounds off your car all at once it *will* feel significantly quicker. But if you price everything out you'll probably find that heads are going to be a better bang-for-the-buck. Look into having yours ported locally, you can usually find someone who will do it for $200-300, just make sure it's a reputable shop.

Just wondering why you do not want to run nitrous in the car?

I just don't like nitrous.

Where can I get a twEECer and do I need a laptop to use it?

You really should consider it. A base kit is under 500 bucks and you WILL get a significant amount of extra power. After all, that is what you want...

Like JB said, you can do little things here and there that will add up, but you're going to pay what you'd dish out for a nitrous system and end up with a comparitively small gain in power and torque.

I agree, nitrous is a blast to have and probably the best $/hp mod in this price range. If you're like me though you want the power there all the time and don't want to keep filling a bottle. I ran a zex kit for about a year, it made driving a whole lot more fun, but I got sick of always running to get more... just me.
