If it is the stock plastic one the hole where the bolt gos through may be cracked but only leaks when the bolt gets tight and opens up the crack, just think'n out loud.
Now back to my cup of coffee.

You could be on to something. It is cracked on the outside area of the lower bolt hole. I think I'll just order a new one. I wanted a new overflow hose anyway, and the whole thing is only $30ish from LRS.

OR.... I could get some flex seal! If that can hold a boat together, it can def hold my overflow tank together!

Small progress tonight. Took three tries, but the God forsaken fuel pump is in.

Attempt one, see the problem here?:

Attempts two and three I dont have pictures for, but what I can say is that my Spectra pickup didnt fit in the Spectra tank... I ended up having to pry up the tabs that the lock ring twists under, and beat them back down after getting the pickup seated. Kinda bullsh*t, but whatever, its done.

Now I am trying to decide what to do with padding. I am not spending $50 on the LMR pads. Gonna hit Home Depot tomorrow to see what I can find for substitution. I thought for about 1.5 seconds I could get the old pads off the old tank, but thats all it took for them to crumble in my fingers.

I ran into the same ordeal with the pickup. The baffle in the tank is welded about 1" too far forward. My pickup went in at a slight tilt but I was able to get the lock ring to seat. I thought it was BS that Spectra didn't have this better dialed in with their own pickup/tank setup.

I could have sworn Home Depot had a similar padding in the HVAC aisle. The LRS stuff is a hair but bigger than 1/4" so I'd say 1/4" should be plenty

A roll of solid foam drawer liner should work for that.

Its 1/4 thick, 12 inches wide, 14ft long. All you'd need then is some spray adhesive. I'm sure you could use that stuff in one of your tool boxes or sumthin'.

Theres several things that will work.
Sound deadener, a few judicious beads of silicone, (allowed to dry first)
Windsheild install ribbon, the actual right product....

I was able to get it in the baffled area easy enough, it just wouldnt fit under the tabs for the lock ring. Once I pried two of them up, it seated nice and flat. I just thought it was dumb it didnt fit without doing that, because that is just asking to break one of those tabs off bending them back and forth.

Man I have spent a lot more money on the car this year than I ever intended to, and thats in the same year we had a baby. Little things that I can save some $$$ on, I really need to.

It's really more to just keep metal to metal vibration and noises down. Any sort of adhesive pad or insulator will work.

I see what you mean about the pickup now. My lock ring tabs were fine, just baffle was very close to sock area

Edit: damn just noticed I put a zip tie on the wires. How do zip ties and fuel do?

Not sure, but now is your chance to pull it out and take it off if youre worried about it. I would imagine its not much different than the plastic connector on the fuel pump though?

Edit: I googled it, and some guys on a Supra forum act like youre crazy if you use a plastic zip tie in a gas tank. If it helps any, I am pretty sure I didnt use fuel resistant heat shrink on my wiring, so Im going to have to pull mine out again unless I get home and see what I have is indeed fuel resistant.

Tonight was a @madmike1157 kind of night. I did everything at least two times, if not nine.

It started off great. I grabbed my package of heat shrink and it said it is chemical and gasoline resistant. Good deal, dont have to redo wiring. So I set about putting my $11.99 Home Depot stick on insulation on the tank. Its an 1/8th inch thick, 2 inches wide, and 30 feet long. I put two layers on to get the 1/4 inch thickness we talked about.

Top side, used my stock tank for reference:

Since I had 30 feet, I put some single layers on the edges on the underside. Come to find out, the underside doesnt touch the tank cover, it seats on the edges of the tank. Oh well.

When I finished that, I could hear something in the tank. It was my GD fuel filter that fell off again. This is the filter that came from Walbro... Had to pull the pump AGAIN. Luckily Spectra sent a filter with the pickup, which fit solid and stays on when I shake the tank. The Walbro filter felt tight, but just keep coming off, no clue how or why.

Then I go to put the tank in the car. I get it all the way in and see that it rubs the car in an area where the stock tank had no padding nor rub marks... passenger side, far back of where the pickup mounts. Im really kinda pissed with Spectra's non fitting . But they saved me with that spare filter, so I wont bitch too much.

But theres a scratch on my pretty painted tank!

I had used all 30 feet of my Home Depot insulation, but luckily found some nice thick foam tape for the occassion. (Kinda hard to see, this is from the side) Bolted it up for the second time.

Got it all back in, and realized I forgot to hook up the vent hose. Son of a b*t*h! So I undo the straps again, get it hooked up and bolted in for the third time. I looked all around and was sure there was no more metal on metal. I am confident that Im good to go.

While I was under there, I decided I would unbolt my dirt caked rear metal bumper so I can clean it and POR 15 it. Got all the bolts out and wondered why it wasnt falling on my head. Then I figure out the bumper cover fits it so snugly, it cant drop without losening the cover. F it I say, put it back for another day. Thats all for tonight. Technically the car is ready to fire, with open headers....
