If you use an explorer intake, it still looks "stockish" and you can have it ported just the same. Not to mention you can buy the intake, have it ported, and still be cheaper than a GT-40.Well, I am no @Davedacarpainter restoration expert, but I did find a nice clean factory distributor cover. Needs shined up, but I am happy to have one. Never liked the look of all the spark plug wires, especially when I put a red MSD replacement cap on one of my old cars. Boy I tell you what, if only spring would hurry the F up and get here, I have some mondo cleaning/restoring plans to carry out... I hate winter in Iowa.

Is that your intake?I also vote explorer. Put the effort into finding and early one with the internal EGR. They come with 65mm TBs that can be converted for Mustang use and 19# injectors with a better, wider spray pattern. You can pick them up for $75-100 locally and have Tmoss port the lower.
A little elbow grease, a 70mm EGR spacer and convert the TB and you get a decent performance upgrade that can look bone stock with a stock intake plaque
I picked one up myself for $75 just for the lower to send out to port, but if I didn't already have a Ford 1993 cobra intake, I'd totally run the explorer upper

It will look way better once I get my stance in check.
And I really wanted silver actually, but couldnt find them. Chrome was on sale for super cheap, and looks good with my color combo. If I keep them long term, I may have them painted silver to match the lower portion of the body. You can see the detail of the spokes a lot better in silver than with the chrome.

No seriously, it is really bothering me that I changed the wheels on the car. I think they look good, but I already miss the turbines. So much so that I reached out to a custom wheel manufacturer that helps the Ring Brothers, and was quoted $1500 per wheel to have them recreated in 18" diameter. The only reason this car caught my eye was because of being identical to my high school car. This car represents an era I cannot go back to, and the more I change it, the less it takes me back to that. I seriously may end up with 17-18" one off turbines at some point, and a stock looking stroker under the hood. Had this car not been in my back yard (figuratively speaking), I would have searched out a solid black or silver one that was already modded to my liking after the SRT8 was paid off.
I always wondered why some people used to have those little skate board tires stickin a mile out of the econo-box they drove. I always said to myself...."How is it that anybody can think that looks good?"
I guess it's the same way I think about a turbine wheel...
It's all about perspective:

Now those wheels that are on that car are ugly no doubt...but there's no way in hell I'd have a problem putting them in a stack and putting a new set of wheels on that car if i was to come across it's clone some day.
I understand your thoughts. SOmedays, I wish I had my original 10-holes back as that's how my car looked when I was in HS.
Only reconciliation is that towards the end of HS, I slapped a set of 16" pony wheels on the car and loved them. Only reason I got rid of them was to go 5-lug. BUT, now there are 17", 5-lug pony wheel options that have me thinking.....
18" turbines would be interesting to see. I think I'd stick to 17" though.
But yeah, there are some days I wish I could put the car back to the way it was when I drove it around in HS. That means porno red interior, and AOD transmission along with 4-lug drum brakes. I think I'd appreciate it for a couple days...and then want to modify it right back again. I remember vividly in HS wanting to do all this stuff and not being about to afford it. M-2300K kits were available for sale and $2500 in 1999 dollars. I couldn't afford that. So now I'm at a point where I can do all the things I wanted to in HS...basically building, today, the car I wanted in HS. So I justify my mods that way.
