Nitto Drags...Does Size Matter?

I just went to the track with my 02 GT. I ran 14.2 @ 98.10 but did not hook very well. I'm looking @ gears and Nitto drags for the next track visit. I have 03 cobra rims on my car (17X9) with 275/40/17 fuzions. I would like to get 2 rear rims that are 17X10.5 with Nitto drag radials. Will this help my times or should I stick with the 17X9 size and Nitto drags? I would think the wider the tire on the ground the better the traction? Help me out guys.

Well me and my buddy went the track with our 315 555Rs and he broke the axle, brake caliper and the brake rotor in half.

But I see mustangs that had only 275 MT DR on the back snapping the axles like tooth picks.
But
Micky thompson DR are a lot softer compound and grab a lot better then the 555Rs

But overall I would have to say yes the wider you go the better traction you get but the more stress on the stock rear end.

A wider tire is a band-aid.
There are cars running WAY faster than you will in classes that are limited to a 10" tire (smaller than a 255)

A properly set up chassis will help more than tires ever will

that being said....I love my 315 Nittos

I'm buying some 275 Nitto 555R's and I plan to launch very easily on them because I don't want to break anything

You'll love the nittos..I have the drag radials in the rear (275) and I noticed a different with launching. It really gives you a nice little extra boost. Tires look good too and the handling and ride is smooth.

I 2nd that you will love the Nitto DR's get them for sure!
My traction only improved with the Nitto's and I think they
are worth their weight in gold! LOL

Extremely sticky tires!

I wouldn't be caught dead driving with them in the rain Looking forward to practicing more at the track. My best 60' was only 2.1x last time.

yeah i am thinking of drag radials. but i also agree with the guy talking about suspension mods. you can make the car stick like glue with the right suspension.

unforunatly some of these suspension mods are not good for looks. drag srpinds, shocks and struts will not give thsoe that want that slammed look what they want. i could'nt care less about looks so the suspension is what i am goign too do after i get decent tires

How much to repair the axle? I'm weighing my options here.

Another tire would be Mickey Thompson Street ET's. I heard these are bad ass.
I can get them for 174.00 each w/ free shipping. The best price I found on Nitto's is 142.00 each.

Well I went ahead and built the rear end after that so it cost a lot more than just replacing the axle.
The M/T's are awesome but they won't last nearly as long as the Nittos..
Get yourself some Nittos and no less than 4.10's out back (if you're staying N/A) and you'll see your et's drop drastically.

I just ran a 13.0 with a 2.1 60' I am thinking with some good sticky tire's I can get down in to the mid 12's. I am getting kinda nervous hearing this stuff about broken rear ends though, what is the cheepest way to reinforce the rear. Sorry if I hijacked the thread
