no brake lights

My buddy and I finished up his 1990 LX 5.0 last night. In finshing I mean the car got a new tranny, King Cobra clutch, plug wires, BBK intake, BBK long tube headers, BBK shorty H-pipe no cats, and flowmaster cat back. We finished it up when it was getting dark last night and were going over everything in the car to make sure nothing got messed up. Well the speedo isn't working which should be an easy fix, but the part that has us confused is the brake lights are not working. The fuse is fine and when you put on your night time driving lights everything lights up, but when you go to apply the brakes... nothing. What could this be? We need to break in the tranny and clutch, but we don't want to get pulled over in the process.

Thanks in advance

First place to check is the brake light switch on the brake pedal's arm. It is easy to knock that loose or out of adjustment while doing all that other work.

Good luck.

I somehow kicked mine off the other day while I was driving. I'm not even sure how long it was unplugged but driving with no brakes & not knowing it, is no fun!

Wow, normally the switch just controls brake lights. :p I have lost a couple of those switches myself - one of which was on a motorcycle  If you see someone bearing down on your six, it might mean that you have no brake lights. Or it can mean there is an SUV behind you.
