After looking at the picture you attached up top, I can understand how a thread could have broken. I had a different machinist back then (when those were made) and the threads had a different pitch than they do now. Sometimes machinists get a bad batch of aluminum stock that tends to be more brittle than normal specs. One thing I've learned is that if a machinist buys bar stock from overseas (where there is no quality control), the quality of what they buy is a crap shoot.
Anyhow this thread breaking off would be a first for my product so let me make it up to you.
