So i've heard that Ford will soon release on their Technical Service Bulletin the Tremec 3650 1-2, 2-3 grind. If my car is not under warranty is it still free? I'm getting mixed answers.

TSB's are NOT free if the car is out of warranty.

My SVT Contour had a "hooting" noise problem that developed at 20K miles or so. I didn't take it in until 40K miles and they found the TSB that covered it, and offered to perform the service for $300.00.

TSB's are not recalls. They are not safety mandated.

I think it is a load of BS that they admit that they 1/2 a$$ engineered or manufacturered something, and since they don't figure it out until your car is out of warranty, then it is your problem. Thanks Ford!

The only leg you may have to stand on is if you took it in for the problem, unresolved, before the warranty expired.

i'm going to go over there and find out how much they'll charge. That grind is just ***ing stupid

If you've been cool with your local dealer, and they know you've been having this problem, then they will usually help you out. I keep trying to tell people here the importance of a good relationship with your dealer.

As for the TSB, they are not free after your warranty runs out but sometimes, Ford will extend the coverage on a certain part or problem.

TSB's are just helpful service hints and tips. They, by themselves, are not "hidden warranties".

However, if you notified your dealer of a problem during the warranty, it is covered until they fix it no matter how long it takes. That is a federal consumer protection law. Just make sure you have all your paper work in order, and that it clearly shows you brought your car in for the transmission problem (that Ford is now offering a fix for), and that the first time was during your warranty period (date and mileage recorded).
