Will running without cats cause you to have that egg smell as if the cat was going bad?

nope, not a rotten egg smell, but sometimes it does stink a little bit, but you mainly smell fuel assuming you aren't really lean

when you put an o/r pipe on it will have a nasty sulfur smell but after a few days it will go away

same with headers. Added mine and the whole garage smelled pretty bad for the first night, after that its gone. I love the smell of my exhaust every morning, smell of no cats is the greatest!

nope.. no rotten eggs here.. just the smell of fuel now I need to get some cams and straight throughs so it really smells good

My car smelled bad for about a day, then it was gone but the sound was beautiful.

Yea the only smell I smell now is the gas smell that comes with not having any cats. The really nasty smell went away in about 3 days.

Yea, my UPR O/R X smelled REAL bad for about a week and a half. It lingered around and I was starting to get concerned until it just went away.

I've had it for nearly 6 months now and haven't had those smellls since.

Right ... but there is still a break in time period.

I brought my car out to the dyno when the X pipe was installed the night before and had quite a few people comment on the putrid smell my car was emitting besides how obnoxiously loud it was.

when i got my new 2 high flow cats + h pipe it smelt for.... esh 2 weeks i'd say, now it doesnt smell but for a while it was quite annoying

Sounds like a plan then. I can deal with the smell (seeing as I'm never behind my car when I drive it)

its only for like 3 days, but after that you get the sweet smell of gas, it DOES smell good in the morning lol

I know this is an extremely old post, but I've been searching through them trying to find an answer and haven't come up with anything.
Is there anything other than the cats that will cause a sulfur smell? I would assume there has to be considering I have o/r pipes (not new, been on the car for >40k) and I have noticed a sulfur smell recently. I have a list of symptoms that could point to several different things wrong with the car, but I figure the smell would be a good place to start, should lead to a more specific problem, just can't find out what that is. Any help would be appreciated.

It could be your battery, or your battery is being overcharged by a failing alternator.

Ditto what Maxed said. We had a battery do this in a tractor a couple a years back. Smelt like a sonofa*****. Took us forever to figure it out, but it wound up being a bad battery caused by a bad alternator.
