My dad called me to let me know that the odometer and the trip on my car froze while he was driving. Anyone know what this could be? I wont be able to see the car till this wed, but am curious to see if this has happened with anyone. The car only has 35,xxx original miles. Could it just be the speedo tooth gear? Or could it be more complex than that? Thanks for any info.

could be something as simple as a tooth back there. i know my tripometer is messed up because of one of the little gears back there jumped to the side and im way too lazy to get back there and fix it

Anyone know of a place where I can see pics of what to look for as far as the proper working order? Or will a chiltons guide have it? Im going to take the gauge cluster out as soon as I get home.

Crawl under the car and remove the speedo gear set. Check the teeth and clean the gear with brake cleaner. I just did this to my Cobra for the same reason, speedo, odo was dirty as crap and with it being electronic, could cause problems. It fixed my problem.

This applies if you have a 5 speed or auto. I've done both.

Well I ran into the same problem but the car has 150k miles on it. I had to pull the gauge cluster out and replace the trip/odometer gear. There is also another gear back there that drives them which is called the worm gear. I have a web address for both gears if you need them. Both these gears are plastic and seem to break easily.
