damn... lucky bastid

but really, we looked at suites once, about 300 bux, but it included pit pass and food, so it's not THAT bad of a deal. That was the March 06 race? It was postponed to monday, right? That was my first AMS race I got in for free. I was off on monday watching it on TV, noticed the stands were empty. I said "**** it" and drove over (about 30 mins) and by the time I got there, the gates were wide open. I think it was about 100 laps in

Too bad... hind sight being 20/20 I could have given you my sweet suite tickets and you could have watched the race on Monday in true style! I had to work so I couldn't return for the race...

Our suite had free booze to go along with the food. It was reserved for television and radio station guests so they spared no expense on the food or drinks!!!

I'd like to make a race this season. I haven't been since the 2004 Daytona summer race.

I think it's going to be a wreck fest on Sunday...

Hopefully I'll make it to both races at Michigan (infield) and the night race at Chicagoland this year.

Tons of anti-football comments? Really? Check your 2008 NFL thread... out of 2500+ posts there are NONE, that's right... NONE in there by me. In the NCAA Football thread there's a single post from me out of the 493 posts and it's NOT negative or anti-football in any way. So please feel free to take your accusal and cram it where the sun don't shine.

As of now I'm done speaking with you in relationship to this specific thread. If you hate so many things about NASCAR, GO MAKE YOU OWN GD THREAD ABOUT IT AND QUIT PISSING IN OURS!

If you got issues with what I said in a NFL thread from 2+ years ago, then go file a grievance with management.

For now though you can take your bigoted redneck, southern U.S., NASCAR hating crap somewhere else.

You have at least three mods who are NASCAR fans within this thread so tread lightly my friend or otherwise I will squash you like a bug.... and that's a promise.... of course unless one of the other mods beats me to it.

well sorry but there are some things I dont like about nascar and things they do that I dont agree with and Im free to express that opinion when I see fit, just b/c that's not in line with how you see it or for the fact Im not a JR fan does not give you the basis of " I WILL SQUASH YOU" No where does it say the views about Nascar must be in line w/ U.M's or your not allowed to post here. Don't worry Im sure JR will turn it around this year, hes won 3 races of the past 4 years, he's just biding his time for the right moment . Im not here to start a crap throwing contest either, Ive posted in the Nascar threads for years and if I dont agree w/ something about the sport or how something is done then that's just the way it is. If I dont like the opening band or song it does not matter if I know the roots of nascar or not. So stop picking at stuff and I never would have said anything in the first place if you didn't find it necessary to make your stupid comment in the Superbowl thread to begin with

I received an email from AMS last night and they are running that same promo as last year for the forthcoming Kobalt 500. The car number for this years Daytona 500 winner will be the price for the first 1000 tickets sold the day after Daytona.

So... if Martin Truex wins the Dayton 500 on Sunday, come Monday the first 1000 people buying tickets for the Kobalt Tools 500 at AMS wouild only pay $1 for their ticket (Limit 2 tickets per person). Of course if Carl Edwards wins... then you get screwed cause normal prices are $95 each.

did you try to buy any tix last year during that special? I tried calling in for HOURS and NEVER got through. There were people camping at the track to get in line for the tix.

What pisses me off about it is they put them in the section I like to sit in. Makes it crowded

No didn't try to get in on that deal last year, but I can only image the flood of people calling the next morning in an attempt to get in on the cheaper tickets.

interesting article. I hope Jr fights back more

Ed Hinton: It sometimes appears Dale Earnhardt Jr. carries the weight of NASCAR on his shoulders. Daytona 500 media day was one of those times, and he didn't care for it. - ESPN

Very interesting and I agree that the track owners need to do more to reduce the costs leveraged against the average spectator. It literally costs an arm and a leg to spend a day, let alone a weekend at one of the major NASCAR races.

Yep, I'm already into MIS for $600 this year alone and that's just for the infield spots...

I'm lucky in that we have friends that live near the Talladega track. Even then after gas, food and tickets it is about a 500 dollar weekend. I think this year I'll try to make Atlanta. My youngest has never been to a race and my oldest has kind of lost interest. Basketball is his thing now.

Good race in the Nationwide today. Stewart held on for a close one.

Yep, I use to pretty much always blow at least $500-$600 just for myself to go to a race. But since I go with my cousin now who has connections I can do Talladega for $300 and Kansas for $150.

I'm lucky to be even going myself. I'm just riding my dad's coat-tails because he's been going to these races with my cousin for 10 years or so. Last year this race fell through for me, but I was at Kansas in '06-'07 for those races. I'm just a fill-in if they have a spot open. Usually they do. The infield rules!

The primary critics were billionaire (at least until the market crash) Bruton Smith, chairman of track conglomerate Speedway Motorsports Inc., and his chief lieutenant, Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage.

....

NASCAR chairman Brian France, asked Thursday about Earnhardt's remarks, said, "I don't think he said all track operators. I think he singled out one or more."

Earnhardt didn't, really, but Smith and Gossage had been most vocal in January.

What can be said of this?

In reading the article I started thinking of the music and entertainment industry of the '50s, '60s and beyond. Where performers had unreasonable demands made of them and were used and abused by venues and promoters,

And the disconnect between money people and reality. Sure, no one gets into business to lose money, but damn, do you beat up on the talent because the public can't afford to come see them perform? And even if the public can go watch they might be putting their money back because it looks like they may need it for more important things?

And I have to wonder if the tracks are losing money or just not meeting projections?

wow, I spend the price of gas to get there (80 miles round trip), tix ($95) fan view ($50) and that's it. We bring a grill and tail gate before and after. I never buy from the concessions. I guess I spend about $175 max.

My first race at Texas was nearly $1000 for two. That was flight, hotel, tix, food etc. had a good time, and I had plenty of spending money back then

How much are infield tickets to Kansas? I had decent seats last year, but not infield. I think that would be fun.
