Oil Plug/screw dripping...

I inspect under my mustang every now and then and notice that there's alway a fresh droplette of oil hanging from the oil plug/screw on the oil pan....i wipe the entire area everytime i inspect the under carriage and leads me to assume that there's a leak from that section.....is there a such thing as a kit/remedy of fixing an oil leak that's coming from that plug/screw? ....any info on this would help...thanks guys!!

maybe a new oil plug gasket? try gettin a fiber one..they are the best

If tightening doesn't work than most likely the washer that's around the screw is cracked. When I cahnge my oil I just put some gasket maker around the inside head of the bolt. Stopped the leak.

yeah that will work...but if its just a drop and thats all you have nothing to worry about...mine leaks like a mother f'er.

dag man,lol....sorry to hear that....i'm sure you're like lol.....but yea man....it does get bothersome even if it's only dropettes....so you're saying a new or even a fiber gasket would help this?....or a sealant to put around the current gasket? where can i purchase a new, or fiber drain plug gasket?

I had the same problem. Always had a drop of oil hanging from the drain plug in the rear sump. Turned out that mine was actually running down from around the low oil level sensor and dripping off of the drain plug.

oh really?....very very interesting my friend....how did you fix that?....did you tighten the low oil level sensor?

tightening something that has a gasket and leaking is a bad idea...because if there is a crack it will only make the crack spread even bigger and will leak even more. you should just take it out and replace it. a good way to change a drain plug without losing all your oil is to get a shop vac and put it over the oil fill tube and turn it on. get the plug almost all the way out before you turn it on. have someone hold the shop vac on there while you take the plug out quickly and put the new one in. kind of a bad idea if its on there too long...but it works. we used to do it at jiffy lube all the time.

Tried to just tighten it , but that didn't help. I then replaced the gasket between the pan and the sensor. Turns out the oil was leaking through the sensor and not from where it meets the pan so disturbing the sensor only made the leak worse (it was now pouring not dripping) once I reinstalled it. I couldn't find a new sensor locally and couldn't have the car down long enough to order one. So I ended up scouring the hardware stores until I found a bolt large enough and the right thread to put in place of the low oil level sensor. My advice if it is just a little drip leave it alone. It may not be worth the headache.

wow.....i'm sure you like lol sheesh....thanks for the info guys....very very helpful....so know about this new info,lol....maybe i should just invest in a brans new low level oil filter?....as a good insurance...

good point man...and thanks for the info....that would suck if it did pour....i'd have a freakin fit.....iight i guess in order to remedy this whole situation....i'm going to invest in a new low level sensor (just in case) and also a magnet drain plug....i didn't know their was so much involved...

Wait man there is no need to go get a new low oil level sensor just because mine was leaking. I was just stating what my problem ended up being. Yours could just simply be the drain plug. An easy way to check would be just run your finger around the low oil level sensor and check it for fresh oil. Don't waste money you don't need to unless it is the sensor, and then I still wouldn't worry about it unless it is just pouring oil out.
