Ok, read thru the formums regarding a tuner, I want to get one of the CAI/tuner combos available, but I have a few conerns.... It seemws some people are having issues with emissions testing, the only mods I have are a axle back exhaust, and of course the CAI and tuner. I might go throttle body, but not sure yet. But that would be it. Would I have to tell the tuner co to write me an emissions test tune when I buy the tuner, or do you think I would pass a test?

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but if you could help me, I would appreciate it.

You might be able to get an emissions legal tune, but don't waste your time/money with a throttle body. They aren't a restriction if you aren't running boost and many people have trouble tuning them. A set of gears would be a better bet.

if all you have is AB and CAI, then you will pass emissions. CAI and tune have nothing to do with emissions.
A tune can cause emission inspection problems because it normally eliminates a lot of the PCM's readiness tests. The work around is to either install an emissions tune, or revert back to the stock tune and stock air intake.

i just went through nj inspection with a predator 87 tune, and had my stock intake on (i pull my K&N to autocross with no problems)

Buy a tuner! I felt a real nice difference with mine.

definately get a tuner...with only xpipe and axle back my car went 13.3@104 added a tuner still on stock airintake wiht original paper filter and it went 12.9@107

So you think a tune with a stock airbox is worth the money? I have been debating this with my car. My kid drives it a little, so I don't want to add a cai right now.

Thanks

Anyone can shoot specs at you until the are blue in the face, however nothing beats a good old fashioned test drive. Make friends with someone who has a car like yours that is tuned and go for a spin. You'll be sold instantly.

The SCT tuner by itself really sweetens up the throttle response and makes it more crisp.. if you need to get it smoged just put the tune back to stock, it takes 1 min... it is really worth it, even if you use the stock air box and filter...

Now go to that computer and pick one up NOW, I order you to... lol... lol

:nice:
throttle response is the #1 biggest thing i noticed with my car!
coming off my cable driven 95, to this car... the hesitant throttle bothered me, got my predator and back to the quick response i like
that alone was [almost] worth the price of the tune

If you get just the tune and the stock airbox, all you would need to do to pass is have an emissions tune in for your trip to the revenuers.
If you want to pass with a CAI, without the hassle changing back to your stock airbox, then find a CAI which has an C.A.R.B. EO sticker. The FRPP CAI has one and since I live in a draconian state is the one I am using. The FRPP 91 tune will pass emissions testing as well.

You won't pass visual inspection with a CAI in California but it only takes about 10 mins to swap out a CAI for the factory pieces and reflash the computer. Then you need to drive it through a driving cycle and get smogged and then swap back. EZ PZ!
