OK: Help me build a 9" rear

you can get crazy and get 33 or 35 spline too. Its starts adding up. I bought a 9 in. tore it apart, bought some 31 spline mosers and a detroit locker, gear, and a rebuild kit. It was still expensive. I will be using my drums off of my 8 inch.

Yeah, if anything buy the houseing from a 67-70 car that will save you bunches. Sure its nice to have a new one but do you need it? Then just get axels and center and that still will be a pretty penny. There is a place here in Ky called maeracing.com and they might be able to help you. If ever get the funds I'm going to have them tear mine down and build it up better, stronger, faster....err wait wrong show lol.

Thats exactly what I did. I have no complaints, and am glad to know I now have a rear that can handle pretty much anything i want to do.

I went down to the local car crushing place, bought a housing for 25 bucks and a whole pumpkin for another 25 bucks. I was lucky enough to find an early housing with the same housing ends as the 8" and also looks almost identical to the 8". So anybody that looks under my car still thinks he is looking at a 8", unless he knows what to look for.

man you got luck. You saved a few hundred dollars just right there. LOL I wasnt so luckey.:(

If you get a 71-73 Mustang/Cougar housing and have it narrowed (I think 1" on each side) it should also work. It probably could be used without narrowing but I'm not sure because I haven't ever done it. Somebody else here may have done that and comment on it.
