Im putting a cheap 302 together for my buddys car its a stock sn95 short block and i just picked up a 69 351w motor.I was thinking of cleaning up the heads and running those heads on the 302 with a trick flow stage 2 cam.I figured this would be a good combo as those heads from what i hear flow better then gt40 heads. Then maybe get them machined a lil to around 60cc.

But what would i need to do the head swap anything special for that swap?I guess someone that has done this with good results would really help me out right now.Car is going to be running 3:73's or 4:10's for that cam with a t5.

On the 351W I think the head bolts are bigger then the 5.0 302. Just make sure you check piston to valve clearance. The 351W is wider and taller then the 302 but they are both the same length if I remember. You should see on line if you can find how much them 351 heads flow compared to the GT40 heads.

They are good heads but personally I think you are much better off finding some gt40s or even some D0OE (351) heads that have already been machined. Its pretty easy to put 1.94/1.6s in the 351 heads and I see "fresh from the machine shop" heads for like $300-400 which is easily more than the valves/machine work costs.

The 351 did use 1/2" head bolts and a couple of companies sell the reducer inserts to bring them down to 7/16" or the 302 size.

Well the only reason i would like to use the 351 heads is i have them already they came with my 69 351w block. And the oly gt40's i can find local the guy wants 279.Which i wont pay is i bought some for my lincoln for 125 with 60k.
