What gets me even more is that you people know that stuff is gonna happen, and you do it anyway, all while laughin' and jokin' it up.

Here is my first Turbo car.

1986 Buick Grand National. Upgraded to a Garrett TE44, 3" Downpipe, ATR Cam, Cold Air Kit and 93 Octane tune made only 505HP at 21psi with the 3.8l little V-6. We called it "Point & Shoot" because it didn't handle for crap but once it was straight and you nailed it hold on.

Too bad it was such a piece of crap. Not the motor, everything on the inside broke of you touched.

This car was proof turbo's can move.

Ahh shucks, I'm just funnin' you anyways. I don't care if you wanna spend a bazillion $$ on a W block w/ 4 turbos (ala Buggotti). If you want it, Who am I to question your motivation?
I've already went through my desire to break the sound barrier. It all becomes a matter of priorities after a while I guess.

Nooo,...It is about being able to drive my 18k investment more than an 1/4 mile at a time.
AND W/O having to put 93 octane (at least) in it to go to the grocery store.

I feel ya there. I could in no way build a strictly 1/4 mile car. Mine is kind of all purpose and I enjoy it that way.

But fwiw, I HATE those rod guys that just show their and never drive them. 427 side oilers and what not... NEVER DRIVEN. Saw a guy with a '67 GT500 with a custom DSG color this weekend at a rod show. Side oiler. Car never drives. Mirrors under. Waste of money, life and human flesh.

And I agree w/ you there as well. My personal peeve is the entire classic collector genre. Guys that buy a car that came out Detroit or Dearborn that pay upwards of 250,000.00 for a car that originally sold for 6,000.00 (or less).
Never intending to actually drive the car, (because he just paid a quarter of a million for it) instead putting it on a proverbial shelf to look at.
I don't know when the price of classics started to skyrocket out of our reach, but I'll guarantee you that it started sometime after the first Barrett Jackson televised auction.

I kinda wish the classic car market would tank in a most stupendous way ( the kind of catastrophe that has the guy that paid $1 million for a 71 Hemi Cuda To jump off of a high roof) Then the classic car market would get the reality check it really needs.
Guys that "drive" their cars could actually afford to maybe own one again. ( Instead of glueing 68 stuff on a fox).

For the guy that never intends to drive his collection, ( the Ego -collector) the Franklin Mint should step up and make "Authorized copies" of the once coveted actual cars for the collectors to literally put on a shelf and show off.
(that's what they are actually doing anyway)

Even if you have great insurance coverage, you can't just bring that car to a body shop if it gets a shopping cart rammed into the rear quarter panel. Almost every inch of your exterior is one of a kind. No, you didn't pay 200k for the car, but it will take a lot of work to repair it!

I agree with Mike, Nik, and Bieber... cars are meant to be driven, not stored. I've got 140K miles on my car, and she still looks good. Its amazing what a little TLC and maintenance will do, right?

I don't understand the collector car mentality at all.... one of the things I actually like about Jay Leno's collection is he actually takes his cars out on a relatively regular basis... even those that are incredibly rare.

I have to temper that by taking the chance. I built it to drive it. The fact that it's a fox (and not a 68 GT/CS) means should the unthinkable happen,....I just gotta alot of work to do to another 4 cyl notch. A classic body,...well that'd be a WAAY different story. Lets just say that you don't find a rust free, fairly straight, running 68 mustang sitting in a driveway for 1000.00 every other day.
